Re: Minetest should have the ability to choose mapgens
Do not confuse 'mapgens' with 'biomes'.
The engine mapgens create a world of stone, water and air only.
The game defines biomes that the engine then, in a later step, adds to the stone/water/air world.

Re: Why are ores so far down?
diamond ores can't be found until -1024y. That's more than 10x as deep as minecraft! Comparisons to MC are invalid =) The reason ores are so ridiculously shallow in MC is because MC has a tiny world height. If MC world height was larger the ores would be deeper. Ore depths in Mapgen V6 have not cha...

Take buckets of water with you. Create a column of water that drops from the cavern roof, then fall down the side of the water column, moving back inside it to slow your fall.

Re: Minetest should have the ability to choose mapgens
To be clear, you want to be able to choose in settings which biomes appear in a world?
This could be done fairly easily in MTGame as a MTGame setting that you access in the 'games' section of the 'All Settings' menu.
This can only be done in the game code, as it is the game that registers biomes.

Can you reproduce the bug in MTGame with no optional mods added?
After what time period is the coal block consumed?

celeron55 worked on LOD for MT 5 years ago, but it had problems so was not merged.

Re: Warning: Rewrite of mapgen V7 floatlands
Here are the 'new floatlands' parameters that emulate the old floatlands as closely as is possible. That is, a single layer of floatlands on a common level with a 2-node thick rim at y = 1279/1280: mgv7_floatland_ymin = 1023 mgv7_floatland_ymax = 1536 mgv7_floatland_taper = 256 mgv7_float_taper_exp ...

Re: Minetest Game: polish, improvements and "game juice".
It's too deeply ingrained into Minetest's identity. You abandon MTG, you abandon the entire foundation the game rests on, and you essentially have to start from scratch. This is very wrong. MT does not need to be ingrained with any game. MT is a game engine, not a game. MT has zero reliance on MTG,...

Re: Minetest Game: polish, improvements and "game juice".
[...] I don't think Minetest should be shipped with any game by default. [...] [...] In the long run, MTG has been causing more bad than good, first of all conveying the wrong idea that MTG = MT. If it doesn't get removed, people will keep creating more mods trying to patch it up, so the damage wil...

Re: Warning: Rewrite of mapgen V7 floatlands
Those are misunderstandings, it actually works out the same. Previously: The widest part of floatlands was at 1280, with tapering (inverted mountains) extending as much as 256 nodes below. The 'shadow limit' setting was 1024, which marked the lowest possible extent of floatlands. Now: The 'floatland...

What do you think of MTG? (1 = very bad, 4 = very good) 1: ***** 2: ****** 3: *** 4: * I think it is misleading to present these results in this way when people did not actually vote for these categories, faced with these categories they may have voted differently to what is presented. Please at le...

thomz92, thanks. I have little time to work on this mod so it is usually a good idea to fork my mod and alter it yourself.

Re: How can I make the biomes bigger?
To make newly created worlds have larger biomes, increase the 'spread's of the biome heat and humidity noises in the 'All Settings' menu. But keep in mind that this will affect all newly created worlds until you edit the setting again. The value of 'spread' will be the approximate maximum size of bi...

Re: Starting new game, falls to the death
JCB, it is also possible that a game (not MTGame) or mod you used set 'singlenode' as the mapgen to be used for new worlds. This is a game or mod error.
A brief description of each mapgen in the mapgen selection menu is intended, delayed due to lack of time and priorities =)

Re: Warning: Rewrite of mapgen V7 floatlands
The new Mapgen V7 floatland implementation has been added to MT development version. The new floatlands exist in a volume from y = 1024 to y = 4096, instead of a single layer at y = 1280. Therefore, MT users who have an old V7 world with the 'floatlands' mapgen flag enabled might want to customise t...
