Re: What's Minetest still missing over Minecraft?
I was thinking more on the lines of what happens in for example The Witcher 3, where after a monster dies their entrails (or bones) fall to the ground and then you can loot them as if they were a chest. The "corpse" would be just a small node mesh, as if it was a mushroom. In the Witcher 3...

Re: What's Minetest still missing over Minecraft?
I always hated the idea of "bones" block. Over time there's bones everywhere. I'm perfectly "ok" with having things like cemeteries or crypts or (mentioned above) death pits, but *not* all over the world. Is having corpses instead all over the world much of a change? Having them...

Re: Save and import buildings [handle_schematics]
[*] Minetest schematic files (.mts) are of course supported. This is how the chest saves backups and whatever you choose to save. From my experience with ".mts" files, it looks like they don't save the content of chests (I mean.. chest nodes inside the schematic). How do you cope with tha...

Re: [WIP] Goblins [mobs_goblins]
I had a whole bunch in this video, and noticed no lag, and I was recording the screen at the same time. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S3exoLdEw_Y This was in a singleplayer world, right? Have you tried on multiplayer? What would we sacrifice in flexibility with the speed gain from this being part...

Re: [WIP] Goblins [mobs_goblins]
I haven't tried it yet but I really like the concept and the graphics. It even looks professional. Also goblins is fitting for the caves and original (vs minecraft). It would be awesome if mobs like this (+ animals) were added to the official game. I just wish there was a stable/efficient mob API. H...

Re: What's Minetest still missing over Minecraft?
I just hope i doesn't look as bad as the bones from the bones mod. We should have a Dead Sam model instead of a node. Just make him laying down, perfectly still, and with a bones skin. Or maybe like a skin overlay... Actually I like the idea of a bones node, just not a completely cubic one. Someone...

Re: [Mod] Beware the Dark [bewarethedark] (WIP)
This idea is really good! It reminds me more of "Don't Starve" than Amnesia. In Don't Starve, the less sanity you have, the more strange visions do you see in the dark, when you have no sanity at all the shadow creatures become real and start attacking you until you die. Sleeping regains a...

Re: We want a Minetest or a minecraft 2?
Considering that Minetest is an engine and Minecraft is just a game, they are already very different. The thing is that there are many people who actually do want a "Minecraft 2", and they use the Minetest engine for that. IMHO, that's a perfectly good thing to do, since it offers several ...

Re: [Game]/[World] Tutorial [1.8.0]
There's the .mts (minetest schematic) format which is not so diffrent from the actual map format. I did some tests with this, but it didn't work out very well when I imported the whole tutorial map (it was giving me an error saying something like "the uncompressed size is incorrect"). It ...

Re: Will MT always use Irrlicht?
The guys from OpenMW had to ditch Ogre3D because it was not flexible enough. They are gonna use OpenSceneGraph now. After reading the dev blog posts it does look like it seems to have a more efficient design. I don't think you will find a real "KISS" graphic engine unless you directly use ...

Re: Wishes for Minetest 0.4.11 (or 0.5)
As far as l know there also is no multi thread support, if the map is generating, lots of the rest of the server stands still. That's a good point as well. This means the server won't scale very well when there are many users.. some of them might be exploring new chunks. How about dynamically sendi...

Re: Wishes for Minetest 0.4.11 (or 0.5)
I don't know if this relativity exist but, a client side lua API , to give advantage of a bunch of mod to do only specific calculation on client side only ( think about immersive sound mod for exemple....) Really? The Lua API is completely server-side? I understand now the performance problems. I t...

Re: [Game]/[World] Tutorial [1.8.0]
For every change I want to make to the world, I would have it to extract to it from the subgame, install it as an actual world, edit it in Minetest and when I am finished I have to put the updated world back into the subgame again and clean up my worlds folder. This would mean the worldedit tools n...

Re: Redesigning the player's animations.
I think something that would give a lot of personality and make the characters more lively is rotating the head in the direction the player is facing (at least in the up and down Z axis, since we already match the direction in the XY pane). Can this be guided by animations in the 3D model or is it e...

Re: [Game] Adventuretest [Alpha]
I'm relatively new to minetest, and I would like to say that this is the best mod I've tries so far. The experience system is quite original and interesting. I spawned at the start right inside of a village, so I scavenged a lot of stuff and I regularly get a fair share of experience points by going...

Is this voting still going on? Seems like it's been 1 year. ---- Nevertheless, my votes: +1 for Tutorial. Imho, it's a must for anyone new and it would be handy to showcase the features of the engine. I got really excited and interested in minetest when I tried it.. it's a pity that many of the feat...

Re: [Idea] Crafting System
I hear constantly that Minetest is first and foremost an engine and the whole point is creating a framework for mods. Well, this is one feature that actually would be very helpful for mods if it was included in vanilla. So I'd assume that things like this should be welcome. The UI could adapt seamle...

Re: Unicode characters in item descriptions?
This might be a problem with the irrlicht engine. For the longest time I had troubles in Minetest with the input. I was not able to type any single thing anywhere (I even couldn't type world names or world seed names properly, so couldn't create a world) only typing somewhere else and copy-pasting i...

Re: Proposal to improve Minetest’s horrible controls
- Left click is attributed to punching, and mining (since there's no way to do both at once), and only those. - Right click is attributed to the primary use of your item (eating food, placing a block, shooting an arrow) - Wheel click is attributed to interacting with nodes, or entities, whatever yo...
