I don't like this version.
I think 2011-07-23 is probably the best one, before those pesky minetest-delta merges!

To answer a question: While the forum uses MySQL for historical reasons (and is not easy to convert to anything else), I prefer PostgreSQL for any new project I need to host.

Re: Rebuild from scratch on Xamarin, different engine...
I should add that it would be preferable to make something from the existing codebase though. By making it in a different language, you're going to have to do a lot of work to get future client-side Lua to work and we can't backport your fixes or anything. Also you can't use our updates and have to ...

Re: Rebuild from scratch on Xamarin, different engine...
I'm going to guess Vibrocil isn't going to make anything worse than the existing apple store ripoffs that sell in-game privileges for money, so I wish the best of luck to this. Minetest doesn't run well on low-end devices so it's a good thing to focus on. Of course, open source would be very welcome...

Re: [Mod] Advanced Trains [advtrains] [1.3.0]
Here's a rather silly video I happened to make about this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFn6VX_8VCM It's basically a timelapse of me trying to use this mod, including all mishaps and entanglements. Keep up the good work; I can't even imagine how painful it has been to make something even this fun...

This is probably among the best original music about/for Minetest made so far.

Re: dynamic image loading
Work could be done towards allowing the server to push updated or generated images to the clients at runtime. There are problems with that like the fact that the Minetest client has no means to ever delete any images, but even if that isn't solved, it would still allow updating player skins without ...

Re: The future of Minetest after RealBadAngel's departure
Well, this may be simplistic, but the whole issue I believe lies with our development team, and within Irrlicht itself. It isn't as easy to work in as other engines, which are much more streamlined. I know there was a thread opened that was talking about migrating Minetest to a different engine, bu...

Re: The future of Minetest after RealBadAngel's departure
Frankly, the shader system will very probably be abandoned in a corner. It will be maintained as-is and it might get some performance improvements, but there is absolutely no force that would move that part of Minetest anywhere now that RBA isn't around. It's just what will happen, there's no need t...

Well, it's kind of complex at this point but you could start reading from these locations:

Meh; please stop fighting and adding unnecessary reports. The topic will be moved only if the moderators so decide on their own. I decide to not move it because it isn't strictly a map, which in my opinion gives Michael Eh? the freedom to post it here.

Re: DWYWPL A Kid Friendly Alternative to the WTFPL
I agree that WTFPL was a better idea a few years ago when Mine* was more of a college kid thing rather than a family thing. However, it's practically impossible to switch every piece of content away from that license, and regardless of that, going around changing licenses is not something I consider...

Re: image library functions in lua api
Converting pixels to voxels is a valid use case that comes up now and then. If somebody contributes a well-made small implementation of reading image files to the Lua API, I think it could be included. Anything that goes beyond the bare minimum will probably have hard time being accepted because Min...

Re: Old-timer MT lovers (4 years on)
I thought of something that might be of interest... Here's the first ever map rendition of the c55.me server (back then actually celeron.55.lt). It was generated right on the next day (2011-05-30) after the first version of minetestmapper was published by J0gge (2011-05-29) on the finnish IRC channe...

Eh. It'll do. I appreciate your response! Not being Mojang or Microsoft has many sides to it. Let's just deal with it and do what we can get ourselves to be bothered to do. Some people make it sound like everything is falling apart but it's not really the case; there's a lot of room for this projec...

Re: A plea for direction.
Let's be frustrated together! As far as I am aware, Minetest is an horrible failure at any decent goal I could imagine for it. That's a bit rough isn't it? I have personally seen Minetest raise from nothing to likely tens of thousands of users and to an online community with many things happening ev...

RobertZenz: You have more power than you think; you just need to use it. I don't know what you mean. I don't know either. For me you're one of the few Minetest players that really use their power. Well, you are using it. I said that more from a standpoint of being concerned that you would stop.

I now took a new look at the current arguments about this overarching issue, which I agree is an issue. I don't feel like there is anything in particular that I could do outside of personally starting to handle all PRs. There is no mission statement in this world that would help those PRs RobertZenz...

What game/subgame is that? Looks like the node LOD stuff is on, and textures look different? It's Nodetopia with far-away background being rendered using my in-development code. I was testing stuff and was making my way through a thick forest. Nodetopia likes to make them insanely thick; it's not e...

Re: [Forum]Dark Theme
If you make a dark theme, I can add it to the forum. Maybe just fork the current one to get a strong base or whatever. Oh, also, I think the installation instructions in the repo are outdated; you don't need to copy it over prosilver anymore because it already includes all the required files now. At...
