It can be. If you've got a good source image (low noise, few unwanted colors), those steps will generally take less than 30 seconds. Sometimes, it's just easier to erase pixel by pixel though, as GIMP's select-by-color (and the related "fuzzy" select) can be a little overzealous.

In The GIMP, do the following: Load the image. Do: Layer -> Transparency -> Add Alpha Channel (if it's grayed out, you don't need to add it) Select -> By Color (or click the icon in the toolbox). Click on one of the gray areas that you want to erase, but hold the mouse button down. Very slowly, drag...

TL;DR: Anything newer than roughly one week ago takes forever to start a world when using a high-resolution texture pack, at least in Linux, and starting fresh doesn't really help. :-) ----- I can't be sure if the speed difference I saw between 0.3 and 0.4 (March 20) was real or just my imagination,...

This error seems to have reared its head again. For me, it happens fairly reliably the second time I leave one world and enter another via the main menu. High end video card (with I think 1GB of memory on it), 81 MB of texture data.

Well, since plugs/sockets are used to make diodes, and mesecons seem to be used more for shuttling data around than carrying "power", how about just "anode", "cathode", and "inverted cathode" in place of plug, socket, and inverted socket, respectively. As for ...

Jeija: I have some recommendations for your mesecons mod (I'm using 0.9). First, a terminology issue. To me at least, the word "socket" strongly suggests a data output or mains outlet, while "plug" suggests the counterpart on a receiving or powered device (printer, lamp, etc). I ...

Here's my little house. Started out as a bridge across the water, then turned it into a sort of a staging area.. next thing I know I'm building a house.

Heh, I blamed that on my video driver; just need to enable driver-level antialiasing/supersampling/etc. Supposedly this can be done from outside the game, but I don't know how. :-/

HDX Textures (64 - 512 px) [git rolling release]

Vanessa's Photorealistic "HDX" texture packs These texture packs are intended to provide a nice, realistic look to Minetest, in multiple resolutions to support a reasonable range of graphics power. High- and low-end machines should all do well with these, provided you choose a size approp...

Texture pack help

As I mentioned in another post, I'm working on a texture pack, but I'm having trouble using/testing it. I've already scoured the web looking for hints as to what might be causing this problem, but I've come up short. First, some background: I started this project by getting a listing of filenames of...

Alpha translucency?

I'm working on a texture pack and would like to make some objects with parts that are slightly translucent, for example adding a soft glow around torches and mese lamps via the alpha channel. I've noticed that this seems to be possible at least for some mods like bobblocks, but what about plain text...

Hi all, This is my first post to this forum, so first I'd like to say that I've grown rather fond of MineTest, to the point of playing it pretty much constantly! I'm using 0.4 (2012-03-20), and have installed the moreores, moreblocks, mesecons, and zlpdoors mods, and Misa's 64x64 texture pack. That ...
