The Sea is my Life!

I had enjoyed playing the Ocean Experiment subgame created by Casimir so much I had downloaded the subgame and played it on my local network at home. Recently, the Ocean Experiment server was shut down. I have decided to get a VPS account and make the game available to those who really loved the game play and survival strategy.

The features of this version of this Unternull Server are:

• Spawn Area Protected
  Survival
  No Creative
  Mobs that drop ore
  Locked Chests
  Build Protection
  Fresh Bones will take longer to turn to Old Bones
  PVP Optional

Signs are posted in the main area -- The contents are below for easier reading.

Go collect stuff you need and go out and make your own island or underwater base! You can even try to build in the sky! You will NOT lose your inventory when you die, but bones that become old is fair game. This game has locked chests to protect your inventory.

No Swearing, No Griefing, No Dating, Do not talk about any information that can personally identify you (for example: Your real first and last Name, address, school names and addresses, telephone numbers, e-mail addresses) - Nothing worse than identity theft.

You will start off with some initial items that you can go and get started. This central area can be harvested or mined for more stuff. Please be a team player and replant trees, wheat and cotton. You can get stuff from the unlocked chests if there is anything to take.

The papyrus root may be placed on top or underneath the water. This is how you can build your island or underwater base. The papyrus root can help you dive great distances. You can also make underwater breathing stations to take a rest using the papyrus root and placing papyrus on it.

Building in the air can be done but will be tricky if you run out of supplies.

PVP has been enabled as an option. There are spleef and batlle arenas on the server.

Summary:

This is the game that I had started on my home network. I wanted to add some features that players have voiced that would improve playability.

The game is playable - but I need to modify config files - sorry if it was offline for a while.

The server is operational now - the IP was updated.
The server announce to the server list has been corrected.

Hi Builder!

I saw that you had this server up so I gave it a go! I forgot how tricky it was to get started with few items, good challenge!! So, in playing I quickly ran out of cobble, just enough for a furnace and an axe. Sooo, I wanted to show off the wooden cobble generator I built:

Builder123, the map seems to be resetting areas randomly

Unfortunately I had inadvertently multiple accessed the map.sqlite file and corrupted it - the map data file has been restored to 4-11-2015 12:00 PM est.

I apologize to all that may have lost building progress during the last 4 hours.

Sorry about your loss, death, but I am surprised to learn that there are 2 accounts named death on my server.

You are not the same death that is currently performing administrative duties on my server. In fact the true death
account was banned by someone holding admin privs, of which you had at the time.

Due to impersonation with fraudulent intent, you may not build on my server using a reserved name.

Also - Your signature block is slanderous, and it offends me to be the brunt of an incoherent joke.
Remove it -- I have no sense of humor.

The server has been shut down for maintenance and security updates.

We had experienced a problem growing wheat and shops could not be crafted.

I have installed a new mod and rebooted the server this morning.

I modded the localstuff mod (Voxelgarden specific mod) to include shop for crafting.

You can now craft shops and grow wheat once again.

What an inspiring video! I never thought a cobble generator could be constructed in this fashion.

Great ingenuity, maikerumine!

The server was shut down for an extended period of time. Death and I are working to resolve the source of the problem in order to ensure that the operation of the server is 24/7 as intended.

I will always announce a server shut-down to players logged into the server if I am intentionally making changes.
Typically the shut-down will only last 60 seconds or less.


There will be an auto-restart feature installed to keep the server running in the near future (thanks death!).

I apologize for any inconvenience as a result of not being able to connect to the server.

Protection Blocks

I have added the minetest-protect mod from Zeg9: https://github.com/Zeg9/minetest-protect/

This is the easiest way to protect your property. The protection block and protection stick are now available in the craft guide. Markers and /area_pos (areas mod) commands are still available to all players.

A shop has been set up where you can buy protection blocks in the main building. Other shops will be placed around spawn for easy purchase.


Great news for PVP players!

A new mod has been created by rnd to add PVP to the game.

Simply type /pvp to enable PVP. You can fight other PVP players to the end. Once you die, PVP will be automatically turned off. You will not lose any inventory -- but you have to find your bones before they get old.

To fight make sure that you and your opponent turns on PVP. A message will appear to all players that your PVP is turned on. If you want to turn off PVP - you must kill yourself or log out and back in again.

PVP is always off unless you turn it on for battle. With PVP off (default) you will not take any damage from PVP enabled players.

After several attempts to restart, I had several errors that prevented the server from running.

I have performed restore operations this morning (Eastern Standard Time) and the server is not running.

The server will not be available for play until errors are tracked down and resolved. This may take some
time to repair.

Update 5-20-2015 12:39 PM: I have resolved a major error, the server is running for now.

Cobble generator - from spawn (shops) on way to free wood (free farm) there are stairs going down - takes you to a cobble generator. Nice video !
