It seems to be because of this, I haven't noticed it:

NEWS!

Lately through summer weekends, I shut server off to encourage more outside activity.

And personal reasons to keep map safe.

So I decided to backport my offline copy of the map so that it can run in old clients 0.4.10 in the screenshot. It crashes instantly in client 0.4.0 not sure in which exact client it becomes stable(ish) but I will probably keep going until I get it to work in 0.4.0. Why would I do this? Well it's not like anyone else is going to :)

Tal,

It might crash because the map may have bugs in the sql data? IIRC that snapshot may be around the crashing.
If a node is a node, maybe metadata causes the crash in 4.0?
In 4.09 to 4.10 boats and beds were added (player attached.)

In new news, O have updated the mobs api for a more mine clone feel, expect lots of fixes and drops will be updated.
Finally an api that will run them all... sorta.

The next few weeks (months) will be focused on refraining the mobs.
After that, then a tweaking of game play, it is gratefully screwed up atm lol.

Maike, Oh it's 100% certainly a node metadata issue. As I test Format 23 mapblocks in progressively older clients, the first thing to go is chests stop opening, then furnaces start to cause crashes. Fixable by reformatting the node metadata, if I ever get around to it. I thought the content width would be an issue going from 16 bits back to 8 bits but as long as no mapblock has > 127 different node types it's not an issue and the maximum in the database was 63.

As for bugs in the sql data. Every one of the approx. 10 million mapblocks in the database has been disassembled, reassembled and reformatted many many times, if there are any bugs in there then they are so subtle that they are beyond my ability to even detect!

Hey maike, I hope you and your family has been doing well friend!

I've dropped by your YouTube channel a handful of times the past several months, and I see you're still enjoying the freedom of the public airwaves. Good stuff!

Anyway, I'm not sure if this server is still online, but if so I'm eager to stop in again very soon. I know I've been a little negligent with my spot at spawn. I hope to do something about that. Incidentally, I couldn't help but notice the screencap from iisu above. Hmm, I could swear I recognize that building from my City of Lakeland project on the original ESM server. I wonder how that got there lol!

Hi maike,

The server has been up for a while but now doesn't appear on the server list anymore each time i checked. Is it down for maintenance and should expect it to be up later or is it gone for a while?
Thanks for your time :)

SerBer is updated to MT-560 and running well, fine tuning as usual with some older mods and getting ready to unlock the final level to the map. :)

I made public Extreme Survival server Circa 20150909 - Before I rekd it with: mapshrink, bloat mods, and constant changing things.
It seems pretty popular for only being online for a few hours.
need 4xx client for best result.

Even found Lag01's place. :)

I saw this and compiled the 0.4 client so I could check it out... very cool.

Now both Madness and ES are down, and for quite some time. See my PM on ES map corruption.

Any chance either of these servers might come back up?

I would like to once again extend the offer to help as time permits, especially with the 'Maikerumine's Madness' server. This server is so cool and unique, IMHO, that it deserves enough love o be consistently up and running for those of us who are addicted to the creepy goodness.

Hell, I'll even host it on a reliable Linux server, if that helps. We can put the map blocks on an optimized PostgreSQL DB backend and you can pretty much guarantee a fast and reliable user experience after that.

Don't let it die, if that's where it's going then please let me help.

Cheers,

- Phil
