Grail Test Server

Once players started building something more than primitive huts, fire ought to be disabled on any server. A stress test may be a good idea - on a copy of the map so that all can be restored after the test. Players, even moderators may do things wrongly. Giving them a second chance sounds fine. But...fire really needs to be disabled. It doesn't add to the game. It's just griefing and creating lag.

OK, I get the message, nobody likes fire.
For the record this was a new world (The Land of Dreaming) that I was running specifically for testing purposes.
We are now back in Bramble Haven - the original world.
The spread of fire will be disabled on next reboot.

I can't find the server in the serverlist. How else can I connect? I can't even find it in the online serverlist.

The Grail Test server should be available on grailtest.free-server.co.uk:30000 most of the time now. I will post here if it is likely to be down for any length of time.

most of the skins are not visible in the menu and only 3 of 4 pages can be seen.

I have fixed the skin previews. There are only 3 pages of skins and they are all displayed. I don't know why UI reports 4.

The server is generally very calm. I do encourage role play, so incidents like this just add to the drama of the storyline.

The code is a bit unstable at the moment due to fluctuations in the upgrade path. Sorry. Something to do with mobs is intermittently crashing the server, if anyone has experienced a crash related to mobs could they tell me what happened. The stack trace is less than informative. I need to tame the mobs a bit.

Also, I've been wondering for a while now if the map is in the worlds forum. I'd be interested in trying it out on my own. I'm still kinda shy about servers. I've never join one, and I'm rather new to the minetest community, so please forgive me for that. I've used the game several times, I really like it. Thanks for putting time into this project!

That's an idea. No it isn't, but I could look at uploading it, particularly as the server is offline at the moment and the changes I'm making in the codebase may require starting a new world for the server.

I just registered to tell you that you have done an amazing job so far i just started minetest on linux and i have never joined a server so far. While searching for one i came across yours and i was amazed it looks really fun i am looking forward to your server being up online so that i can join and have a good time. Keep up the good work !

It's a completely new world and could do with some willing testers.

The server will be offline for a short while.

I am moving ... again! and will only have wifi until I sort out a decent connection.
Also it is hard to develop whilst running a server at the same time.

Grail Test server is back online with a reliable connection and dedicated server!
While it has been down, I have basically rebuilt the game from scratch, so the whole thing is much more consistent, coherent and playable, improved the play guide and added some video tutorials.

Drop by and have a look around. Interact is disabled by default, so if you want to build, you have to message me somehow, either on here, in which case tell me your player name, or use the in-game /mail chatcommand.

It appears the new server has issues (don't we all). Players may have noticed rather frequent time-space glitches, which can prove disconcerting, if not downright disheartening. As the settlement has begun to attract some good builders and some of the survivors from Bramble Haven have found us, I want to ensure the quality of everyone's in-game life.

So, it will be down for a few hours, while I reconfigure things.
And I may clean up the world a bit before I re-open the dimensional portal.

Probably just enough time to watch a few episodes of grailcast - which is a series of grailest tutorials I made while I was offline. I hope you find them amusing, if not useful.

The dimensional portal is open again and I'm quietly confident that we won't be seeing any more major crashes. In fact, the server seems to be running smoother than ever now. So I can declare it safe to dig, explore and build again.

On the subject of asking for interact:

It's probably best to either post something in this forum, or use the in-game /mail command to ask for permission to dig and build. Other channels, such as PMing me on here or just asking on chat may get overlooked. It is just a little formality, which lets me know that you're a reasonably intelligent human being - I have only ever refused when the request has been accompanied with threats. I know it's only a game, but you'd be surprised.

This bit is important: you need to log into the game first and, if you post here, tell me your username.
