Hi, i really love to play on the server, but actualy i have not seen ufa or SOUALYMANE and some hackers can do what they want. I couldn't reach you the last times you were online ( what i can understand because everyone wants to talk to you). May it could be a go good idea to find more moderators.

Hope you can help and a huge thanks for hosting this great server,

Thanks for letting me know. Moderators (ufa and SOUALYMANE) are not that active anymore so i agree with you that the server needs some mods. Unfortunately i am also not that active atm so its hard for me to tell who could and wants to take that responsibility but i will put it on my todo list. Thanks

UPDATE:

Snowy Glacier Pathway

There is a new spawn around 5000 blocks North away from the current one. It is located in newly generated map, so there is lot of resources and places to build - unexplored area. There are no roads nor paths build yet so you have to explore and build paths on your own. You can get there via Warp stone on the current spawn, the new spawn is called and will be referred to as Snowy Glacier Pathway or you can use commands:
  • /warp [warp name] - warp to a destination, if allowed and exists
  • /listwarps - list all known warp destinations

The new Spawn is absolutely cool, i gonna build me a house there right now :-)

Maybe a good idea is to protect the underground deeper than at the original spawn, so players cant build factories under it and there would be not so much annoying noise from grinders like under the old spawn.

Its my grinder that under the spawn. I think need just fix the sound or something like this.

Happy New Year 2018 to everyone!

I would like to thank to all players coming and play on Survival X server and your suggestions throughout the year 2017.

Here are some flashbacks of year 2017:
  • mummy drops diamond and mese crystals now
  • added basic machines: detector, autocrafter and constructor
  • ufa and SOUALYMANE became moderators
  • built lot of paths and railways from the Spawn
  • added basic machines full MOD (except environmental)
  • added chest and Uruk Hai/Spider spawners to Dungeons and Temples
  • Uruk Hai drops unique shooting sword
  • i was moving from Europe to Canada, therefore the server was relocated to the best/cheapset location where it is now - thanks for your feedback and suggestions on where this should be!
  • lot of cleaning up griefed places, houses and roads
  • You can farm melons, corn and coffee now
  • Dungeon Master drops seeds: corn, coffee and melon.
  • YouTube video series and tutorials on Survival X
  • You can farm pumpkins now... find the seeds in dry grass.
  • You can farm Obsidian Wart now... find the seeds in red mushrooms.
  • There is a big performance optimization done under the hood regarding melons and pumpkins. ABM was reworked to LBM and there are no ABMs to found in Survival X farming mod anymore - this will improve the performance. There should not be any changes to your farms/crops but if you see something "funky" like they are not growing, just replant the stems and it will be alright (in the testing phase this wasn't issue though). In the following days there will be more testing done on production server and any issues or timings will be fixed/adjusted accordingly.
  • lot of updates to basic machines (thanks RND)
  • big performance boost by re-factoring spawners ores - if you have any problems with the old ones, just dig them up and place them again
  • removed lucky blocks - due to too many mess-ups in protected areas
  • removed beerchat - nobody uses the features and #main in the chat causes confusion
  • added pbj pup
  • added mob horse - cow drops leather now
  • added warps and warp stones for easier teleportation
  • Snowy Glacier Pathway added as a new spawn city in unexplored and newly generated area

Goals for the New Year 2018:
  • Focus on performance improvements (current MOD stack, re-factoring MODS...)
  • moving server back to Germany due to current bandwidth challenges
  • NO adding new MODs unless they are simple, perform good and i will be able to manage them (update, customize, debug, fix...)
  • Adding/developing new unique MODs what you can find only on Survival X and nowhere else (using/extending only minetest_game API)
  • migration to minetest 0.5.0
  • building more roads in Snowy Glacier Pathway
  • finding new/responsible moderators
  • adding new warps/spawns on other sides of the World

The goals for the next year sound great :-)
I don't think more warps are needed until the server has more players, because when all the players are at a lot of diferent places, the server may look a little bit empty.

Maybe you can add a board to report hackers, cheater or spamers to Admin/Moderators so its easier to detect them without a lot of Moderators online.

Else, what changed at the server in the last im is awesome, and i hope you keep up the great work you did.

Thanks ADM17, you can report hackers in this forum, happy new year !

'AngryBird' was banned and all his protection blocks will be removed... he was flying right in front of me, nobody reported that :( please report hackers! - and i mean hackers not people who killed you because you went AFK on spawn :) hackers = flying, clipping, fast, remove protections, suspiciously rich after a short period of time..

- protected Snowy Glacier Pathway Warp beneath (no annoying machinery directly under the spawn)

You need to take care with players who get suspiciously rich after short time. As I can get more ores in 2 weeks, while normal players can get those ores in 1 year.
If I feel it then I do it (I don’t need a reason why)

1. Can you do profiling over period of 5 minutes in 'real enviroment' - online+players? And post whole report.

No problem here. Very well behaved mod with only 1.7% average cpu use. That number 96.7 means that only 1x there was 96.7% usage ( perhaps on initialization ). And ABM is subcategory under 'easyvend' mod - and 41% means not from total time but only from 'easyvend' 1.7%.

You should look at mods that show high AVERAGE %, those create lag all the time. Of the listed ones only such one is
spawners_mobs: | 14 | 720879 | 1866 | 0.1 | 99.1 | 20.9

There must be more of such 'spawner_mobs' mods, since this is only 21% and others few listed are <2%.
And that number 99.1 (MAX value) doesn't mean anything if AVERAGE is very low since its measured in server step (0.1 s). If for example you had 99% activity for 0.1 s only this would only add +0.1s 'hiccup' to lag, so nothing. If mod would cause serious lags regularly, then AVERAGE would be way higher than 2% : example 10s total run time, 2s 'full lag' -> 20% average. Exactly such behaviour can be observed while playing on survival X ( sudden few second (2-10s) lags occasionaly). That night before christmas when you made diamonds rain lag was horrible (+10s), since every active entity adds small amount of lag.

EDIT: just wrote /spawn on survival x and could count (slowly) to 20 before it teleported me, but shown max_lag is 3.0s which tells me that 'max_lag' number is a fantasy number. Another time few seconds later could count to 8 and 13 with max_lag 2.5 ... I don't get this on other servers like Banana.

@RND thanks for the explanation and helping out, i am learning here something and that's always appreciated!

To be honest all the issues sound to me bandwidth related, /spawn also waits for the server response, so the server geological location is playing important role here. In the profiler is nothing much to see (or nothing new to me).

This are profiler data after live server running (with players) for about ~10 hrs and me being online after ~1 hr.

Mobs are always heavy so that's maybe something to tweak. Spawners_mobs are the last one to refactor (on my list) from spawners - while spawners_ores and spawners_env were exact copy of spawners_mobs you can see from the profiler that after re-factoring them they are barely use any processing power. Taking to account the fact that the server has 2 processors with 8 physical cores / 8 Threads this is not the biggest issue. Seems like many players are from Europe and surroundings therefore the geological location of the server has big impact on the bandwidth.

+ ALL OTHER MODS : < 20% avg cpu time

In other words, top 3 mods contribute to 67% of all cpu burden. Spawner ores perform much better cause 'ore' is a dead-inactive thing. What happens when all mods combined exceed available cpu? -> LAG. Because all the operations in progress are first completed, only then other things can continue working.

Some ideas how to fix mobs:
1. Limit number of total active mobs at any moment to reasonable number ( 100? 50?)
Some mobs do heavy things like path finding every server step - sounds extremely wasteful.

2. Improve spawning process of mob ( heavy search for spawn points is no-no)

Man, this server is great. I'm sold, I will be playing here regularly. I was super excited to find a challenging survival server. I mined for quite some time, but i have a bit of problem now. I was carrying pretty much everything i had gotten so far on me, and anticheat false triggered. I have been having connection issues with my internet, and it would appear i lost everything when anticheat triggered. It was something like 5-7 diamonds, 60 ish steeel, full steel armor, around twenty copper, about 10 tin, 5 mese, a mese crystal shard or two, a diamond sword. If i could have that replaced, it would be awesome. I can show you my deep mine i made where i got all of it if that helps. I understand if you can't/don't want to do it or check logs anything, but would appreciate if it could be done. My gamertag is "darianbrown".

Are technic, mesecons, and pipeworks a prospect for this server? Or are they too heavy?

Also, there is no rule forbidding greifing, so it is allowed, yes? Including blowing things up?

Someone called Dieudonne991 is actualy saying wierd, random things who look like pasted from the internet
and i would like to know if that is enough to report.

He's probably using word prediction on his keyboard. Android keyboards tend to try and predict what word you will type next, you can just keep pressing the prediction to make a sentence that looks partially right but makes no sense

1. too heavy
2. if it is unprotected area then its technically not griefing :)

You can place TNT only under -50 or something like that so yes - protected areas will not blow
