Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
Monte48 : You can't have proof, as it was done by a Minetest player. Even if that player was named "Lejo", this is not sufficient to make Lejo responsible. Also I trust Lejo. I will report you to the Minetest forum moderators.
Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
MoNTE48: That wall of text was not made by Lejo, but by one of the players the frequent your server, who is upset about all the bugs multicraft has when the webpage claims it to be stable (according to him). This toxic reaction is unnecasarry and will end up with you making a fool of yourself. Please calm down and stop this.
Hey, what can i say? I'm the bad guy.

I didn't see any swatsikas in the said player's pic.Stix wrote:MoNTE48: That wall of text was not made by Lejo, but by one of the players the frequent your server, who is upset about all the bugs multicraft has when the webpage claims it to be stable (according to him). Could we see your proof Monte48?

Proof1:
viewtopic.php?f=3&t=16707&p=349774#p349768
The same IP. Lviv city.
---
The next proof will be this guy's personal data, as well as sharing the video with him :) Lejo and I will stop being anonymous in one day :)

All right folks, knock this crap off. These Forums are NOT the place for this kind of spat, and indeed it makes things of questionable legality in certain countries.

Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
Ah What a great day.
And suddenly you recognize that your servers are offline.
Then you see that your diskspace is full. I ask myself why? A few minutes later you see oh /var/log/btmp is > 10GB.
And google says that happens when you are getting brute forced.
So what to do? First I disable password-auth. But the silly attackers thing they can still try to brute force the password...
So what to do? First I took my server offline to prevent more bandwith loose.
So I check the ips at abuseipdb.com and wow they are all 100% abuse nice! So police wont help...
But now my question is: Who could have done this? Who likes it when my server go offline? Or who payed who to do this?
Sorry for all players for the offtime, I contacted my host so the server should get online again soon.
Nice when you downstream is much higher then your upstream. Two day comparison:

Don't you have something protecting you against Brute Force ? Rate limiting ?

Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
I have a DDos Protection, but it doesn't seems to block this.
Maybe I will add a rate limit. But I now protected me just by disabling all password logins. You now allways need the correct RSA-2048 key.
It's more a DDos Attack then a Brute Force Attack

Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
A suggestion: if that was an attack against your SSH instance, install fail2ban. If memory serves, after enough failed attempts, it blocks the source IP at the firewall.

Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
The Problem is not the Brute Forcing. They can’t crack a RS-2048 which they not even know the Public Key From.
My Problem is that I loose a lot of bandwidth.
It’s much more a DDos Attack.
And sadly nothing can directly prevent DDos attacks.

IPTables + TARPIT is a pretty good combo to deter such attacks ;)Lejo wrote:The Problem is not the Brute Forcing. They can’t crack a RS-2048 which they not even know the Public Key From.

Works pretty well for HTTP, it should work with SSH too (tcp)
I wonder how much that attack costs nowadays, can't be cheap i guess... :)
Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
I like the idea to let the attackers wait. Maybe I will add this.BuckarooBanzay wrote:IPTables + TARPIT is a pretty good combo to deter such attacks ;)

I hope so but as the attackers are mostly hacked PC so I don’t think that’s so expensive.I wonder how much that attack costs nowadays, can't be cheap i guess... :)

Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
The ones who hack these PCs for sure don't sell their computing power for free...
Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
I hope so.
I just still wonder who did this and who wanted the attack?

It's called lag. No way to fix it. Unless you get a better internet connection (The server might need one too but it's most likely a problem on your side)Menetorplayz wrote:Bug report:

My ping can be 17ms to 30ms, and I am using Ethernet.

Then the server may be lagging. How many players were online?Menetorplayz wrote:I don't see how can be my internet connection.Lone_Wolf wrote:It's called lag. No way to fix it. Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
Its because Lejo run 2 servers in different versions, the other one have more players (0.4.17.1) without the old server it should not lag on the new server (5.0.0)
Re: Subgames for all! a Minigame Server [Back!]
Nope that can’t be the reason as I have 4 cores and Minetest doesn’t has real multithreading.
