[Server] Olympus Has Risen

New server is up and running.
Description: Welcome. Build if you dare. Quest if you're brave enough. Set in an ancient world. Go back in time and explore a realm where anything is possible.

Game: minetest_game
Client version: (PC and Android) 0.4.16

Goals: Our original goal was that we wanted to make this server an adventure server with quests and rewards with an ancient Greece them. We wanted it to have some flavors of building and flavors of survival with mobs, thirst, hunger, etc. combined both to make an adventure game.

We then tended to flex the goal to be not so strictly greek and to fit closer into the trope of a Wide Open Sandbox game as defined in TV Tropes: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... penSandbox
As such I especially wanted to make a game similar to the pie chart (at http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/M ... penSandbox) which includes: exploration, mini-games, a main quest, side quests, random things, and other side quests. Overall, a balance between a wide open world and a sandbox game.

Treasure Chests -- Added. This is a neat way to make quest rewards.
Mob spawners -- would like to add
Teleport Potions - As an alternative to teleport request.
chat anticurse - will auto-kick for the usual bad words, even administrators. Ha ha ha XD

Is there a server problem? Every time I log in it shuts down with an internal error.

I have not had the time to maintain the server. Now, I've forgotten the shell account passwords.

The server is back up titled Olympus Has Risen and the connection information is above.

Spawn is now relocated to the foot of Mt Olympus.

Mt. Olympus quest is now available. The goal is to climb in and up Mt Olympus and collect the loot from the treasure chests along the way. Can you find them all?

Teleport Request (tpr) Mod

I overheard some players talking about having teleport to player and teleport request.
While i can appreciate the conveinience, i will have to pass on installing the mod now.

The reasoning is as follows:

Teleporting a friend into the middle of a quest might give the player an unfair advantage over other players doing the quest legitimately.

Teleport to friend requests have an unfair advantage in a pvp environment.

Getting there is half the fun.

Tpr requests don't have a crafting cost. I would rather have a cost associated, especially for a survival server.

However, the current teleport potion mod by tenplus1 would make it redundant.

THe player you want to teleport to would have to agree via cmd. But I see your point. I should be able to get along fine without it now that I can craft the potions

I am doing some work on the server in the next hour.

The work is taking longer than expected. I hope to have it up again in the next hour but the maintenance may extend another hour with some reboots in between.

I was wanting to ask how interested the community is in continuing the server?

Overall, I cannot say how long it would last overall continuing it into the future. Mainly because it is home hosted and could run up against my ISPs limits and I might be moving out in the coming months.

In doing the server again, I discovered (and I had this conflict in the past server) that I tended to be split between my personal investment and catering to the community's requests as to implementing this or that. This comes to a point in that I'd rather do it over again and just do building and survival. Perhaps in singleplayer or to a limited amount of other players that I could trust.

I guess at this point, if anyone is still interested in it, then I'll put it back up online. Otherwise, folks can probably PM me about having a more limited multiplayer game.

Incidentally, I used version 0.4.17-dev and had some interesting glitches. I'm compiling the stable release. I hope to have it up again within the hour. I may need to redo the world since it is going a version back but (fingers crossed) it'll accept the world as it is. Otherwise it may be another hour until I'll have it back up.

I just found two of my mods. One makes cob, to make cob houses, straw or wheat grass and dirt recipe.
Then the beginnings of another mod. Um you'll have to see that one.
