Hello Nemo/Sorcerykid,

Could it be possible that all spawning of mobs is currently disabled on your server ?

From about 08:00 AM UTC (a few hours ago) until I logged off from the server a minute ago, I've seen the following:
- At night on stone no monsters spawn any more.
- Neither are Turkeys spawned any more in a wheat field by day.
- And I am finding "unknown objects" on the surface (screenshot attached).

With best regards,

Thanks for your feedback. Theoretically, I should be able restore pretty much any section of the map as long as I have coordinates (and assuming it was saved to the database), this includes mines. If it's an extremely large area, it might not be feasible. But certainly anything under ~400 cubic meters is well within reason :)
To be honest, I was sort of hoping that the problem would be so big that it would make you decide to restart the server from scratch with a completely new world.:-) Would be interesting as a player to start in that kind of world in its virgin state.
Actually I do have plans to launch a couple new servers at some point. Both are very much in the development phases. They will be off-shoots of the just_test_tribute game, but with very different survival objectives. So perhaps they might appeal to you :)

Was really upset about it lol. Took a while to get that far into the mine :(
I'm really sorry Master_CJ. I'm sure you put a lot of hard work into that project. If it's any reassurance, I still have a copy of the map, so I can restore your mine using WorldEdit.

Hello Sorcerykid,

Thank you for your reply.

Good to know. However at this point it is too late. The important part was my base, with its chests with ores. However, in the mean time I have improved and reorganized by base. (Sorry, it seems I gave you insufficient time to reply.) At this point I would actually prefer to keep my base as it is now, even with the loss of the about 20 lumps of mined Mese.

The deep mine itself was actually not important. And in the mean time I have also come up with a better design for deep mining. So for the deep mine itself I'm totally OK that that hole in the stone is now gone, it gives me more blank unmined space to try new stuff.

If you don't mind letters floating in the air, then there is however one other thing that you could maybe restore for me. It is only a gimmick and not really important. Namely, the following 34 x 8 x 1 region (which contains only cobbles and torches and air):

x in [-390, -357] inclusive.
y in [ +36, +43] inclusive.
z = 919.

(I send you the coordinates this way because I can not send PMs yet.) These are letters floating in the air above my base (whose location I hereby make public; a test whether I am burglary proof may be interesting).

That is very cool. Keep me informed :-).

Yes that was the case. I upgraded the engine yesterday with changes to modding API (Minetest S3 is now version 4.14 to better acknowledge that it is a standalone fork), but had to disable the mobs_redo due to incompatibility with the new version. However, I just restarted the server with the necessary fixes, so all should be working now.

Certainly, I can go ahead and take care of that tonight during the server restart. Sorry to hear about your base. I had planned to to do WorldEdit last night, but got tied up with testing. I can gladly reimburse the 20 mese crystals that you lost.

Yes, all the mobs are there again. Thanks !

That is great. Thank you.:-)

Wow, you are giving yourself a lot of trouble. Thank you. I do not know the *exact* count. You can reimburse me 10 mese crystals, that is enough. (I'm not sure how you will do the reimbursing? Add them to the inventory I am carrying around?)
At this point the Mese is not really urgent for me any more: I changed plans, namely before the project that I had planned using the mese for, I'm now planning to first try out my new deep-mining scheme idea, just to see if the idea works. (My mind seems to work in first-in last-out mode; the ideas that propel me the most are the newest ones.) When you are down there breaking stone nodes you can not help hitting Mese, so by the time I have finished the new deep-mining test, I will have plenty of mese anyway.

That would be amazing if you could. I don't want to put anything on the area in case that messes everything up haha. erstazi helped me with the coordiantes explained on the bottom of page 55 :)

Happy Valentine's Day from JT2!

To celebrate, I've pushed some exciting updates to fit the Sweetest Day theme :D

First and foremost, the Bedrock Markup Language now supports EMOJIS! It's simple and easy to embed smilies and other symbols into your messages using the existing item tag. Of course, I went a little overboard on the love motif, but can you blame me? ;)

Image

Just type one of the following emoji shortnames preceded by a colon, such as :cupid_heart or :smitten.

Image

In addition, I enlarged the sign editor and added a Preview button. No more repeated closing and reopening of the page just to fine-tune your message. Now, it's but a mouse-click away.

Image

Last but not least, there are now RED and BLACK balloons, so you can spice up the party just in time for the holiday, whether it's Valentine's or Anti-Valentine's (yes we support the goth persuasion on JT2)!

Of course you can mix-n-match any these balloons in your signs as well:

Code: Select all

[r=2][c=1]
[i]:heart[c=7]Here is a BIG red balloon for your extra special Valentine![i]:heart
[r][c=3][i=9]fireworks:balloon_red
Image

Many more features on the horizon, so stay tuned for further announcements!

Hey sorcerykid. I made a mistake that caused the server to crash. See PM to see details why the server crashed. It happened exactly when I did it.

By the way, the emojis and icons are great idea! Thank you for the preview button.

I have an idea for a simple way for making the game (minetest in general, not just JT2) more challenging, without introducing any additional mobs. Namely:

If a player dies, then he loses half his inventory. That is, only half of his inventory is transferred to the Bones, and the other half is destroyed.

Thus, when dying, you lose half of the resources and tools that you were carrying around. This makes dying into more of a loss. After dying, you now not only simply have to retrieve your Bones (which is rather easy if you keep your armor on as in JT2), but you also have to re-gain the tools and resources you lost.

Algorithm:

Code: Select all

        for every slot s in inventory
        do

                Halve the number of items in slot s.

                If the number of items was odd, then it's a 1:2 random coin toss whether the remainder of 1 is also lost.

        enddo
So unstackable things (like swords) are lost with 1:2 probability. (In a game where armor is not transferred to the Bones but is kept on, one could extend the idea and also destroy half of the armor the player is wearing.)

Is this idea already implemented somewhere?

I'm not sure this thread is the right place for posting this idea? Feel free anyone to give me hints as to where I should repost (or moderators feel free to move this post).

With best regards,
-- Ferret2

Ferret2 that is evil hahaha. But you could write this as a mod in lua (: Minetest is built around mods.

You crashed it also? Double trouble today.
I'm reading an Ebook while trying to stay awake a few more hours. I've recently found a website where I downloaded about 40 Ebooks to expand on series that I hadn't bought all of the real books before publishers quit making real books. I hate Ebooks but better than no books. Expensive quad-core desktop book reader too :/ Maybe I can dig out an old 8086 computer to read them haha.

Hahaha, I crashed it a few days ago with a feature that sorcerykid added. She fixed it quickly so it isn't a bug now. But when it happened, it was tragic! I was very excited to mess with the new features and bloop! there went an internal error.

Exotic Building
A few weeks ago I began working on building a mansion in the server, inspired by a few great houses, specifically one built by iisu. So I went off and made my own version. And thankfully I had the idea of taking a screenshot on each step I took so you can follow along with me! (P.S: Special thanks to erstazi for help with uploading the images!)

1= Image

Phase 1: Locate an area where to build. I like having all my builds in one place so I chose somewhere near home. Which soon, erstazi and I named our neighborhood, Crescentville, about 800 West from spawn!

2= Image

Phase 2: Okay so I may or may not need to take down some of the maintain behind me. Plus someone seems to have died under my future mansion haha

3= Image

Phase 3: Okay so I soon realized that I was going to need a LOT more room and the mountain behind me was in the way, so with some of erstazi's help, we took it down, in the snowy weather xD

4= Image

Phase 4: Creating the foundation and adding the floor. This too a while, and annoyed me because I knew I was going to have to remove it later.

5= Image

Phase 5: Foundation complete!

6= Image

Phase 6: Began working on the front of my house! Ideally I would've loved to use Quartz instead of Steel Blocks but Quartz was incredibly hard to find with the large demand, and I only had 3 blocks while my chest full of Steel was sitting there so I improvised.

7= Image

Phase 7: I made a really cool mine on the mansion grounds! The mine has 4 ways of travelling: Walking, Carts, Falling, and Teleportation. As of now, the mine reaches -400 but I plan to down thousands!

8= Image

Phase 8: Time to work on the front walls! This required a HUGE demand for clay. Shoutout to talamh with helping me with trading! I could not have done any of this without you!

9= Image

Phase 9: Walls...

10= Image

Phase 10: More walls...

11= Image

Phase 11: And even more walls!

12= Image

Phase 12: Time to begin working on the roof!

13= Image

Phase 13: Finally finished on the roof! If i had to pick the most frustrating part of this whole mansion, it would definitely be this one! I had to use tons of slabs and stairs and they all had to be facing the right direction and I had to go through countless screwdrivers to get it just right and UGH xD I'm so glad it's all done with!

14= Image

Phase 14: Time to start working on the pathway!

15= Image

Phase 15: Now time to remove all the stone bricks I mentioned earlier! Placed all the grass for a nice looking lawn!

16= Image

Phase 16: My favorite part! Making a cool looking fountain! Made 2, water and lava. Lava being closer to the mine!

17= Image

Phase 17: It's complete! Added plants and bushes and flowers and lighting and a nice pool! And I'm standing on the top!

Image

And why not top it off with the statue of Nemo that I built! :D Hopefully the images work! Thanks for those who helped and supported! Now i can go to sleep.

I recently became working on a irregular shaped castle in the boonies. Once i acquired a bed i right-clicked it and got a confirmation in chat of setting an "active spawnpoint" i decided to test it (before noting down coords, stupid me) and i respawned at spawn instead of my bed. What did i do wrong?

If you use /home it will tell you your home coordinates. I think you always respawn at spawn though, time to start walking :)

The beds only update your active spawn point if you use them at night.
