On those express lines you mention:
I'm planning to implement a user-friendly train automation system into advtrains, instead of programming everything ingame with the current means (this would be waste of time). However, this will not be finished before the new year.
I'm afraid you'll need to use the travel centers (that are existant since yesterday on the server) to go to far-distance destinations.
Lua is great!

That will be good.

Also I am going to hire more south forest coordinators, anyone who can settle new players.

Hmm, this might be due to the rubber trees coming from the technic mod... I'll have a look at it.

Hi,
I have a problem connecting to the server.
Every time I try to join with the right password (it works with at least one other server), it tells me it is invalid.
I don't know why. I'd love to join, but I can't.
Please help.
Hi. I don't have any published mods yet.

There is another player called Coffee99 on the server. You should use another name.

Over my dead body. If I ever want to have a slum nearby, there is plenty of space on the left bank of Stallman river, with FOSS Prospect going there over a bridge. Not to mention that the Planetarium station is about three times closer to South Forest's subway system than the edge of Stallmangrad.

The actual plans for development are as follows:

Now, the districts are more or less provisional (they won't all be perfect rectangles), and I marked only the streets about which I'm sure enough where to place. Otherwise, it's the best reflection of my current intentions.

I think too that the South Forest subway should stay where it is. Stallmangrad can get its own system.
I've been preparing the track section signalling/automation system by reimplementing and adding certain features and I'm now at a point where I can start with it, so it will take max. 2 months (no promise, however) for me to implement a PoC version that we can test on the server. This would allow us to finally bring up those Express lines again.
There are many tracks distributed all over the map, some of them are redundant, some tracks just end nowhere. There are many possibilities, and there's no real need to build more parallel running tracks.
(for example, there are 2 tracks running to South Forest)

The server will be down tonight due to maintenance work. Some bad blocks on the SSDs were found and need to get fixed.

Smacker, please give me(and/or gabriel) feedback on what you think about this. I guess the colored lines you've drawn are planned subway lines.

Ooh I noticed you guys updated the map at http://advtrains.bleipb.de/linuxworks/, it looks nice! Are all the currently shown extensions (like green line up to Apple Grove) completed, or are some under construction? What about the red line continuing east of Edenwood?

Stallmangrad is looking nice indeed!

Current progress: the server has been backed up, the problem is that I can't reach the webmaster of Linuxworks right now to get him to backup the rest. There is no real point in putting the server up again at this point, since the data might get lost in the process.

This is all basically dividing the hide of an unslaughtered bear. The whole idea of the project is to build a planned foundation for a city to avoid having to build around existing structures later, or in equal degree to avoid having to build around the very same core due to lack of any meaningful peripheral development. Making railroads early means bringing back exactly the same factor which was supposed to be avoided: it's both an obstacle and a point of attraction.

For example: the "freight line" cuts the place I plan for digtron-harvested fields in two parts, and crosses over yet uncleared area I plan to dedicate to a tree farm. Yet the freight station is miles away from anywhere where production would take place. And then the "mainline" makes a turn to basically barren lands... What development scenario would unfold in such circumstances?

I actually don't anticipate any development on the left bank of the river, simply because it's largely barren land — and then a piece of beautiful, but extremely uneven terrain along the very shore. On the other hand, there is an existing platform in the bamboo forest on the mainline, and it would be logical to anticipate people wanting to settle around it. Then slightly to the north-east in a distance there are mostly undiscovered lands, which, however, appear to be both ecologically diverse and aesthetically pleasing, which are also more likely to be of interest to someone — rather than the barren lands, lava craters and open sea which are to the south and south-east.

Not to mention that the whole thing might just fail, and any railroad building would end up being a waste of time.

In short, rushing makes no sense here.

This is really going to take longer :/. I haven't heard from the guy managing the VM cluster so far. I hope we can restart the server today.
