yep, teleporters are very expensive, maybe even too expensive, so people ask for teleport privs.

A few accounts with empty password were compromised this morning. If you get griefed because you have an empty password, it is 100% your fault.

Also, empty passwords have been banned now for new accounts so this doesn't happen again.

Just wanted to introduce myself here as this is my favourite public server.

I might currently be Redwood Island's only permanent resident. I've built a station building for Redwood Island (and thereby a way of getting off the platform that's much easier to find, even though the Mom Express is still closed) earlier this year, and now I've been assigned to build more station buildings. I mean, you guys are currently expanding the network like crazy.

I'm currently working on a small two-track junction station which I gave the "working title" Hawking Memorial Station. Nothing fancy due to lack of time for planning, but at least I'll leave you an engine shed (also so that gpcf can park his loco there, heh, and so can I).

By the way: May I ask for train_operator rights? That'd make travelling WIP railway lines a whole lot easier.

Oh, and you'll get my money back. I barely get to mine for materials, I spend most of my time tending to my farm and/or building stations, and the ground under my Redwood Island farm estate isn't too good for mining (baked clay to the left, baked clay to the right, cave below), so I have to buy most of what I build stations with. Hawking Memorial is built almost completely from bought materials except for the window-panes.

That said, I might try to earn some money back by opening delis at some of the stations, in case a new settlement is built around the station. You don't always want to teleport to spawn and back to satisfy your munchies, do you? And I need to get rid of my farm products.

Has something happened? I tried logging in, but the client got stuck at media 92%, and I noticed the server description has changed.

Please take into account that the server is in Germany - the timezone is CEST = UTC+2. I think that should explain it.

Also, new rule: No long tube networks, we have trains for that.

Trains for item transportation?

Server will be down tonight due to migration to a new host. Due to this process, the server's address will change. New address: linux-forks.de, Port: 30000

Can trains be used for reliable automated item transportation?

This is such magnificient server! I saw there so many different buildings and long railways! Only lack of subway railway: too short distances between stations.

Server is up again, after cyclic mod dependencies were removed. Remember: Cyclic graphs have no topological sort, so the dependencies cannot be resolved.

Yes they can! Use loading and unloading tracks to load or unload the wagons.
And there is a description in the advtrains mod:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=14726&start=950
Just scroll a bit down...

How much maintenance does it require compared to tube networks?

If you need to move thousands of blocks of the same material, it works. I use a train to move cobble away from the town center to recycle. If you want to move an assortment of miscellanea, probably not. Also I'm not sure loading/unloading will work in unmanned mode in unloaded map blocks...

Thanks for the info. It doesn't seem like trains are a complete replacement, especially if they can't transport in unloaded blocks, but for long distances I would probably just use teleport tubes anyway. Laying long enough tube to cause lag would just be tedious.

Tubes don't work in unloaded chunks either. However, trains will drive through unloaded chunks, although they might not unload their contents at the target.

Tubes do try to go through unloaded blocks: https://github.com/minetest-mods/pipewo ... rt.lua#L93

Things like filters might not work, but things already in tubes at least should make it into chests (for example).

Cannot join either ("Old protocol" error), but I also received minetest update to 0.4.17.1... With 0.4.17 it was working just fine yesterday...

PS: Just connected to a random server, so the update is apparently not to blame...
