I post here my little styleguide for building tracks.
If it is possible, place the track on the same level as the default terrain. Don't build any tunnels/ridges/dams/bridges if you don't need to. Also the turns should be as fluent as possible and the tracks don't have to be axis-aligned.
If the track is slightly above the default terrain (less than 4 blocks), put it on a dam. A dam should consist of dirt (or other surface material) and should have a 45-degrees slope on both sides. If the dam needs to be too wide, you can make the slope steeper but then you should reinforce it by building a wall. If the track is too high, make a nice bridge instead.
If the track is slightly bellow the default terrain, make a walley. There should be a 45-degree slope on both sides. If you need to subtract too much material to make the slope, make it steeper but reinforce it by building a wall. If there is a naturally-generated cliff next to the track, you can keep it as is. If the track is too deep, build a tunnel instead. A tunnel should be 4 blocks tall. If there is going to be only one-block thick layer above the tunnel, destroy it and make a ridge as described above.
Use digtrons or worldedit only if you are aware of all side-effects. Also keep in mind that such tools usually don't do all the job, you still need to look at the result and fix the issues.

Nice
Also, since the server has migrated to the new hardware, will the maps be generated at fixed intervals? It seems like the Maps page is not updated yet.

Is it only me or is it the server that is having problem with the Internet? I am getting more timeouts this week (even at 23:00), sometimes less than 3 minutes after I joined the game.

Is there any chance that this server might get an IPv6 address?
I could not find any and resolving the AAAA record yielded nothing.
Thank You

I don't know. Most Minetest servers still use IPv4 addresses.
You can find information about the server host
here, but it doesn't appear to have anything about IP addresses.
Anyway, what's the problem? "Couldn't resolve address"?

The problem is that my internet provider supports UDP over IPv6 only.
That means i can not join a server which only has an IPv4 address.
Here is a rough list (from my experience Hetzner) what to do:
* Have an IPv6 net or ask for one at your provider
* Configure the network interface of your server so it knows about it's IPv6
* Tell MineTest to listen on IPv6 too.
* Add an AAAA-Record to your DNS with the right IPv6 address
Tutorials suggest that it is possible to this with NetCup:
https://www.bjoerns-techblog.de/2017/07 ... nd-centos/
It would be nice if i could join your server and IPv6 is a growing technology which some MineTest servers already support.

I will activate ipv6 tomorrow on the server. linux-forks.de now has an AAAA record.

Hmmm... Now I cannot see the server at
http://servers.minetest.net/, and it's ?/? in the client. Coincidence?

I do see the server on

Is this some sort of weird bug, or is it that my router is messing up today? The warning says that there's a problem with the login session and asks me to login again, but then it tells me that I have logged in.

@gpcf: Are you sure you really have to write this? (In Origin Berton Str. Station)

Nothing wrong, but I don't understand why you have to write the "first private service over public rail line" thing.

It was a goal of interlocking for players to operate their own services over the public network. This is the first time it has happened, imho quite a notable event.

The server is up, it's just not getting announced on the server list due to some error, probably in the server list code.
Server not up

I am experiencing the same issue as anju64. I can't connect - it is not just that the server does not appear in the browser, because I have the server in my favourited. Even if I manually enter linux-forks.de port 30000, the connection times out. Error message "Connection timed out". It has been this way since a few hours before you posted the notice on the wiki main page about the provider restarting the server.
Edit: Also, I can ping linux-forks.de and it works just fine. But the server doesn't respond to the minetest client.
Edit2: From the ping I saw the hostname 'belgium.gpcf.eu' which I couldn't connect to either. But connecting by IP worked.

Nieuw subway map
Posted: Fri Jul 19, 2019 10:49
by Blockhead
I have laboriously made a new subway map from tracing and schematic-ing the rendered rails svg. Obviously many parts of the layout had to change:
- Extension of Lines 1 and 4 past Apple Grove; abandonment of Levenstein canyon
- Extension of Line 2 past Onionland; re-routing from Churchill St to Marcuse St.
- Extension of Line 3 past Tom Lehrer St and to Bananame.
- Truncation of Line 4 to Schwarzschild St.
- Extension of Line 5 to Leekston East.
- Break up of Line 6 out of ring and extension to Anju Crossing; Library station instead of Lava Fields.
- Extension of Line 7 to Birch Bay East.; Trump Park Station between Shanielle City and Market (previously was Gabriel Plaza); Line 7 re-alignment to include Museum station.
- All of Line 8.
I have also included the ATL-Z section from Pierre Berton St to Leekston Jungle since it provides an obvious connection; the XN service connects eastern termini and could also be easily included, though any more lines would probably needlessly pollute the map (e.g. S12, E1, E4).
SVG & PNG are on the wiki.

Regional rail map!
Posted: Sun Aug 04, 2019 05:22
by Blockhead
After a laborious session of map-making long into the night, I am pleased to present the LinuxWorks server regional railway map!
Finally, a map that will immensely aid understanding of the servers' regional network and hopefully increase usage of a typically esoteric system.
I recommend that it be used as a 4x4 billboard in game and placed in all regional stations.

Can you please use another icon for regional trains? I'm afraid that the German S-Bahn icon may be consfusing because of the S* lines and Personhood S-Bahn.
