sure I ban them, even I am so friendly to tell them why with euban

like just happened (tuti and tutipapa from Peru) joined fresh in, and had already diamond armor !!! IP-banned

I have no windows for a server,
and if, it would be an old used just 2 core, 8 gb, normal ssd version (with bound OEM) jsut for about 50 US$ ... as I will NOT buy Windows !!!!
I had to work with windows for 20 years as programmer and webadmin, and oracle database admin in german army - thats enough to be sklave !

So update mod on server
first i tried old nonew, i rememer long time, and still was in the mod folder, but i didnt get it run,
now, thanks to Shara, suggested similar other mod border, which is integrated and activated and works.

mod border,
will no block all new logins, or even new player, like happened to shara just after restart (denied to get in), and i border up soon enough.
No new players (border up) during the time I cant watch them, and see what they so,
and only open (border down), when I am on-line and have time to check gamers. (and understood /visa)

So server restarted and running, save from this cheating, advantage mobile app users mainly.

I can see the mod no_guests working and blocking about up to 5 gamers each minute want to get in with gamer12 or gamer123 names what i know already, that is NOT original minetest gamer. So got rid of most of them, but still there are others.

So to prevent my trusted players here now, i close new gamers in the night.

As my daughter got rubbered last night, and is very upset today, and when SHE don't want to play anymore, also her friends wont ... and then i don't need the server with this hardware, and this afford in time managing the server.

I should not be blocked by border because I am not a first time player (I had already connected to speak with you). The message I get when trying to connect appears to be the message from nonew.

When I check the mod list, both nonew and border are active, so you need to remove nonew. Only one of these mods should run.

(If you don't use Windows, I am not sure why you mentioned it.)

no need, no hurry,
as mentioned - mods can have bugs, used from the "bad" clients,
i better have to running mods working closing new gamers, then one with a bug and let them through.

As I also use 2 iron doors near each other, stopping the bug users, digging through.

still reading the code of both.
but I did a visa for you ... yesterday.

* no_guests filter first,
* then nonew blocks (just open now, off)
* then border blocks (closed, up)

here just the action log last 16 minutes
6 with 2 diggit ending
69 with 3 diggit ending
1 with 4 digit ending
some others
and some just new not allows border

about 75 / 15 is 5 sure mobile logins each minute, and that tho hole day ... I love no_guests

Server crashed again at 01:57 Bangkok time
with now mod fire causing LuaJit OOM at about 1257 MB at my server.

Server restarted, but as I wrote above mod get deactivated when problem
- mod goats off
- mods animals most off
- mod fire, have to see how take off
and lag is at 0.12 - but server is starting to die slow already with less and less mods work without failure

I updated the thread about OOM crashes,
but there is no any reactions to work on - but as I found one explanation how, maybe I can learn how to detect same issues in other mods

BUT
as I have no proof and no link found to a linux 5.0-dev ubuntu server file, I also cant test if mods will be able to run under 5.0-server then also,
a 5.0.0-dev serverversion of our world is running (Port 30003) - please check, search client and test, report.
another on port 30002 is not so good, but I compare the versions, and more ...

so 2 ISSUES together not sure if mods will survive I have not a big power to repair or rewrite some of them as maybe USELESS if one of both issues is not possible to solve,

The server is not shown in the servers list or maybe in the game,
just use: server.minetest.one and Port 30001, and your normal login, your getting in.

just rebooted even hardware, as server was again at LuaJit Border (value 1450000)
* now mod "stop LuaJit OOM", deactivated - I wanna see what mod crashes next days

* backup done
* server is back,
* 2 values changed in conf (mainly to hit the mobile gamers)
** active object send range blocks = 4 (Standard = 3, was 2) active blocks around the gamer sent to gamer
** max block send distance = 10 (Standard = 10, was 5)
= both increased as I guess more data-transfer, what might be not funny for the mobile client gamers

I dont think that the mods are the culprit. Im uaing 4.17.1 compiled with luajit support, I guess now running with luajit on. Are you still using sqlite3 database? I think it consume a lot of RAM. You have way bigger RAM than my machine and it should be no problem at all. I suggest a little experiment migrating your database to leveldb or postgresql may be it can help.

the mods ARE the problem first as USING LuaJit, and my server as offering it - but too less!
the problem of LuaJit is then just give 1 GB (maybe 2 GB), seams more when I look the crash reports
I am just first time testing how to migrate to postgresql on my third machine ) server, but that cant be the solution as Lua or Luajit is consumed by mods and offered from the server (to less) - and at the end maybe not using LuaJit at final version then.

Please check if your server LuaJit is enabled, not only using Lua as it was at me before, as I hade no anz problem with LuaJit

* compiled a version with postgreesql
* migrated map and players
* access via IP and port even to other PC

next Step is:

compiling an 0.4.17.1 minetestserver
with * postgresql
without * LuaJit
to get actual version, supporting needed advantages, and make server run more stable (no OOM)
(successful done - not active yet)

then after I can use 2nd server,
* version 5.0.0...
* testing my users to see there area, test build, dig, min, craft ... at there own actual area (on same db)
* waiting for final mt version.

* LuaJit off
* map and players on postgresql (but wrong device, too slow SSD, wanna move to 4 times faster M.2 SSD)

have you tried increasing postgresql buffer cache? with such ram you can set at least 1 or 2GB to quicken transfer. But dont overdo, half total RAM is recommended.

sure, at testing already: machine runs 16 GB, so usable about 14 GB (maybe soon get full 32 GB, can use about 30GB)
* shared_buffers = 1024 MB (instead of 128) good, then maybe 2048
* temp_buffers 8MB (min 800 KB), here sure can rise to 1024/2048MB
* work_mem = 4MB (min 64 KB), that also rise up to 2048/4096MB next ...
(with sum 8GB for here, rest 6 GB then ... hmm need to learn) what i see and changed yet

lag of 0.7 - 0.8 instead of 0.2 - 0.3 is different, cpu more work with the minetestserver threads (edit got down to 0.33 lag with 20 players)

but that after I moved database from /var/lib/postgresql to the extra M.2 SSD ... just looking now how it is, for rest of day as prepare changes

I don't think throwing more hardware at your server solves your problem...
My server is loaded with various mods but my minetestserver instance only needs about 1.5 gigs on heavy load (25 players).
Did you try to disable some mods one-by-one and check if your OOM-Problem still shows up?
My guess is a memory leak somehow in a lua-mapgen...

Also: don't try to modify your minetest too much, it runs fine as it is (luajit enabled) the postgres move is good though...

I didn't write that more ram will solve this OOM Problem, but as the keep map data cache under 0.4.16 reached nearby 8 GB it is for sure not bad, and cache make MTS also fast as no need to read from slow hardware.
It was planed longer, and as also postgresql is able to user cache, ram to keep more data in ram, not wrong at all.

Before disable mod by mod, I (and others also) should take some time first to see what mods cause the OOM. And here i started already the post detect Lua / LuaJit mods that crashes OOM to see witch mods are, but I found more then just 5 yet, and also disabled one, but realizing, if I go like this, about 15 mods, are essential for the kind of my server, would be off already also.

The base after getting witch mod, would be to be able to change the LUA (or LuaJit) catching code as I have seen at one until now, but I still don't understand the code that well to be able to fix it all everyone mod I get an OOM.
That would be the better solution.

I check later, I go cycling first ...

modifying mts, that was the first diff (c)make I ever did, getting postgresql in and rid of LuaJit ... and until now it was worthless to spen all the time
and my daughter is right - she just play other game more (Roblox, as most of her classmates), what makes me getting less and less work until server is gone as players are gone. And if, just to make it restart when they are here together, is later enough ...
