You people still got problems with griefing even w/ node protection?

sounds like you could use some sort of special priv to place water/lava and use buckets. (or disable liquid spreading)

edit:
Buckoff ingame bucket disabler might solve some of your problems.

im going to say it and it will attract the sharks, but griefing is very rare on this server. since things dont burn, lava is just an annoyance.

ok, menche doesnt seem to post on his own forum...which is weird menche. but he would like the following rules to be added until he makes an official post.
1. no new cities past +/-550 on any cord, building in an existing one is fine.
2. actually number one is all that was talked about.

i have a question for all members of the server.

What are you feelings about a possible wall going up, and players caught building outside of a designated zone will have their privs revoked.
1st time 12 hours.
2nd time 24 hours.
3rd time and beyond 3 days.

Bad idea. Imposing arbitrary rules is what attracts griefers and keeps them coming back. (just to show you that they can). You cant really tell people what to do / not do in game,... well you can try. But your always better off making the system enforce the rules, otherwise it ends up being personal for the griefer. (IMO)

Why not node_protect all the areas you don't want people building in???

the wall would be to keep people closer to spawn, to reduce any lag on the server from the ABM.

why not write a mod that teleports people back to the specified area?

If you have ABM lag convert some of the mods to punchnode actions

The reason I have been thinking about building a wall (i don't think that was originally my idea) is to limit new buildings to a reasonable distance, to make the area closer to spawn more interesting, and to make interesting structures more visible. It doesn't have anything to do with abm lag. IMHO, if you build out at +2000 to avoid griefers, you may as well play singleplayer. Summary: I want to make more of the server activity visible, and the wall is one idea that was brought up. I have several other ideas, including an official teleport room (almost done), a reward system for building at spawn, and building an actuall spawn city.

Thats all fine, but an actual wall would probably look bad. What you need is a mod that confines all building to a specific area.

Like a sortof inverted node protection, where nobody can build anywhere until they're granted an area. Server admins could define and limit development, like municipalities do by granting lots.

Is it possible to write a mod that, every so often, checks a player's position and, if they're out of bounds, snaps them back into the allowed area? Seems like you'd want something of a buffer to that, say out of bounds + 10 blocks or so. Snapping them back should put them no less than, oh, twice as far from the border as the distance there were outside it.

two ways:

either you declare the player to be untrustworthy to the server, and you setup a timer to check on playernames:getpos() and teleport them back when theyre out of bounds

or

you setup a special node protection area at the citys' edge that teleports the digger/placer back to the center

Just added kotolegokot's Money mod. You can now transfer money with a command, and make vending-machine-like shops that don't require supervision. Everyone should start out with 2000. More information here.

To clarify about the shop configuration: players buy/sell to/from the shop. So, to make a shop to sell something, configure it to buy; players buy from it. Check the mod's topic for the syntax and setup.
