Block Survival Issues

I have been playing on a server called block survival - not blocky survival - recently and have been having issues with growing wheat and cotton, as they won't grow and just stay as seeds. I don't know who owns the server, but i have spoken with some of the mods breifly but they only come online occasionally and only for a short amount of time so i havent been able to ask them about it, however i read on another thread with the same issue that it had something to do with the mods. If anyone knows what i should do about this or anyone who runs the server that would be great.
