Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
Because there are no other exile servers online, and it would be sad to let such an original game die, IRCnow has opened a new exile server, called Land Of Catastrophe.
Survive if you can!
The server will update regularly, but please direct any bug reports to https://github.com/jeremyshannon/Exile/issues
the official Exile project

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
Yay! Such a great game, deserved a server for a while. Hopefully with the new bug fixes this will be a much better experience than the one from long ago. Very excited for this!

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
How much a noob are you? Do you mean how do you start minetest, navigate to the servers tab, and find the server?
If you know that, then the address is:
minigamesgalore.freeirc.org
and the port: 30004
If you need more help let me know
Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
I've been enjoying the chance to watch what players do in the game.
I put up a basic shelter near spawn, made out of noob-proof materials, in the interests of helping the minecraft expats stay alive a little longer, but just for the hell of it I made the doors simple cheap wattle doors. The kind you can make in under 2 minutes on day 1 if you like, but the kind you can remove with your bare hands, too. Just to see what happened.
Well, they get stolen a lot, which I kind of expected. I mean, they're basically worthless, so why you'd want to is a fair question, but the really amusing part is that I keep finding their bones, too. Right outside the shelter. One guy pulled a couple of doors off, then stepped out and walked right into the shaft next to the shelter and fell to his demise. Another pile of bones of a door thief was about 10 nodes away from the shelter. He stole three doors, walked out into the icy cold, and died. He didn't get to keep the doors, though, as I put them back on. :D

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
LoC is now running a preview of the upcoming version of Exile, which includes head tracking, male and female models, and random skin generation!
Note that your gender when you log in may not match what it said in your Exile letter, there's not much I can do about that since Exile used to randomly generate your gender for the letter, and then promptly forget what it generated. Just imagine your character disguised themselves to take the place of their true love/sickly family member/underground resistance leader/crime syndicate boss/what-have-you.

Land of Catastrophe is now using a lightly modified rspawn. Players will now be respawned at various places around the center of the map, often far from the shelter.

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
what happened when get exhaustion of spawn points? players can still play .. or just get black screen?
Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
rspawn.kick_on_fail is set to false, so you can still play even in the unlikely event that spawn points run out.

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
I managed to massage Amidst into displaying Exile biomes. Here's an overview of the center of the map, sadly minus the volcanos.
The spawn shelter is in the center at 0,1664, and the red box is a rough outline of the region that players can spawn in.
Gold is grasslands, obviously. The pink/orange is dunelands, reddish-brown near the water is silt, dark brown with white snowcaps is highland mountains, and the pale green is woodland.

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
Fair warning: Now that Minetest 5.5.0 allows it, the behavior of flowing liquids has changed. They will no longer support your weight, meaning water ladders no longer work, and waterfalls are dangerous -- you can get stuck and/or drown. This is currently live in the latest git code, but has not been released on contentdb.
It is, however, active on LoC, so be careful around those sea caves!

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
Land of Catastrophe now has the new dyeing code available! Now you can dye, while you die!
Various plants have been randomly chosen to be the source for seven dyes, (with three shades each) and it'll be up to players to figure out which plant, when treated in the correct way, will produce a dye.
Bundle some plants, roast, cook, or burn them, and see what you get!

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
Latest git changes to be loaded onto LoC include a timeout on bed protection -- if you log out in bed, your bed is only locked for 7 days real time, a heat haze to visually indicate when you're exposed to scorching hot temperatures to complement the frost overlay, and a limited form of fire spread. No more kilns made out of thatch, and be careful about setting your bed close enough to a fire to catch sparks and ignite!

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
Monumental rings have been sighted in distant regions of the map, and Dokimi's tech rebalance is live on the server: there are now multiple paths up the tech tree, including wicker bags and wooden water pots.

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
Land of Catastrophe and the other minigamesgalore servers are down at the moment; it's being looked into.
Update: The VPS host is not responding; we have a new host available, and are now discussing either restoring from a (somewhat old) backup or restarting the server with the new biomes from the v4 development branch.

Oops, forgot to say, we're back up as of the 20th. Turns out there was a failure in the SSD system drive. LoC is up again, intact, and new backups have been made. Huzzah!

LoC is down again, the host has been messaged about it, but being the weekend it may be a few days before we come back online.

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
In my spare time I play exile single player, how is it different than server play?
Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
It's easier to bootstrap yourself up in a world where players have built a civilization. You can borrow somebody else's anvil to make your first pickaxe, which lets you start mining iron ore nodes much sooner, for example. If you get stuck somewhere, there's a fair chance somebody can come help you get out.
There's usually trouble with destructive newbies around the spawn region, but griefers are uncommon -- it's too hard to survive and travel to make it worthwhile, I suppose. Most players that stick around tend to form communities and build things together, and are usually more than willing to help newbies out.
The world feels much more lived in, you'll see bones and ruined, half-built shelters here and there, and occasionally come across small towns player groups have built, and the occasional megastructure.
LoC's server host hasn't responded yet. The server was donated for free, so fixing it is understandably low priority for the host when there are paying customers to worry about, but we are concerned, and are looking into setting up an alternate host in the future.

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
I am unable to find this server, is it still down?
Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
Yes, the hoster still has not responded. We're weighing options at the moment. In the meantime, we do have a server up and running the current beta of the upcoming v4 branch, and the Spanish language server Relegados is still up too.

Re: Land Of Catastrophe [Exile]
It seems the company that was donating the free server on which LoC ran has gone bankrupt. But that's alright, we have other options.
The Land of Catastrophe is back up, on a new host, at exile-loc.planetofnix.com, port 30050. It should appear in the official server list shortly.
Bear in mind this backup is from about a month before LoC went down, (automated backups were not working) so some of your progress may be lost, unfortunately.
