OK so i am new to the game and would like to make a server but the only way i see is to run it off your pc? If i buy a vps is it possible to install one on it? If so how i cant seem to find any guides.

Alright i tried it i am getting this

nohup: ignoring input and appending output to `nohup.out'
nohup: failed to run command `minetest': No such file or directory

And what's that?
The 2nd sais, minetest folder is missing.

Still doesn't work but Stupid question Does it have to be linux or will it work on centos 6 ?

First things first.
You need to learn a little about GNU/Linux, read about his history, try out a couple of distros at your home (VirtualBox or real PC).
You can start with Debian and CentOS. Both are GNU/Linux distributions .

It will work on anything that minetest builds and runs on.

The first person to join the server (which should be you) will get the operator privileges I believe. To give a player all privleges you use /grant playername all. If you want them to only do certain stuff eg. ban you do /grant playername ban.

It says i do not have permission i was the first to join the server is there a file i can edit to fix this or anything i can type in console? iam doing this on a vps?

Add "name = yourusername" to ~/.minetest/minetest.conf to set yourself as the admin.
