Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.11.4] [craftguide]
I have changed a bit of the code for my server, so that it uses a cachefile for loading the cache,
if i remove that file it is regenerated by the mod.
My problem has been the long time it takes to cache that all, which made the server start just to long.
Can you add something like that to your mod?
here is the code i used:
EDIT: and i had also no problems with the new version :) thank you for the update

Spoiler
Code: Select all
local function get_init_items()
local file = io.open(cache_file, "r")
local caches = nil
if file then
caches = minetest.deserialize(file:read("*all"))
file:close()
end
if caches and type(caches) == "table" then
pdata = caches.pdata
init_items = caches.init_items
searches = caches.searches
recipes_cache = caches.recipes_cache
usages_cache = caches.usages_cache
fuel_cache = caches.fuel_cache
return
end
-- ...
-- save caches to file
caches = {
pdata=pdata, init_items=init_items, searches=searches,
recipes_cache=recipes_cache, usages_cache=usages_cache,

}
local file = io.open(cache_file, "w")
file:write(minetest.serialize(caches))
file:close()
end
Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.11.4] [craftguide]
I don't think it's a good idea to have cachefile as you have to delete it everytime a mod, an item or a recipe is added/deleted.
Caching takes long because there are lot of data to process to make the most complete and fastest crafting guide out there.

Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.11.4] [craftguide]
Yes sure, but you could make it optional or add an ingame reload command for the admin.jp wrote:you have to delete it everytime a mod, an item or a recipe is added/deleted.

Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.11.4] [craftguide]
Since it the craftguide sign was changed to this mushy pixel soup some time ago I wonder why it was done.
The previous sign looked pretty fine and was easily changeable by texture packs. All they had to do was adding a sign texture for the craftguide sign and a inventory texture for that sign texture (like with the regular signs, too) and everything was fine.
Now it is not anymore properly stylable because it always uses the full node texture and looks weird 2D floating when using another shape than a full node texture.
It’s an easy thing for me to fix that with another mod but I want to understand the intention behind that change.

1. Full-node size as it's easier to point at.
2. Please suggest a better texture.

Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.11.4] [craftguide]
I was doing some work and had a Lets Play video on in the background. Everytime I'd watch the video, I thought man this character looks *really* familiar. It finally clicked after about seven minutes that its jp's Alex Kidd avatar :)

Looks like a really cute and good classic game.

Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.11.4] [craftguide]
Hello and thank you for this mod
A player told me that the craftguide doesn't display when he opens his inventory...
And this morning I saw this crash:
I don't know if it's related, but I came here to report it and ask for advice.
The player for whom it doesn't display sent me a screenshot, and I noticed that his client is in version 5.0, can it be related?
In the conf file:
craftguide_progressive_mode = true
craftguide_sfinv_only = true

Thanks for the warning. I added it to the ignore table of my update script and will remove it from there when Minetest 5.2 gets released either next week or next quarter :)jp wrote:craftguide now only compatible with Minetest 5.2+

Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.12] [craftguide]
Ah yes, didn't see that because the forum are unbearably slow with a shit-ton of server errors.
I somewhat refuse to use the forum in its current state and just noticed the update via another source of information.

If I update the copy of this mod, It will work if those who connect have a version prior to the server version?
And it'll no longer work if the server version is 5.1.1?jp wrote:craftguide now only compatible with Minetest 5.2+

Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.12.1] [craftguide]
Like I said, this mod is only compatible with MT 5.2+ from now on.
Besides, craftguide 1.12.1 has been released as a hotfix release.

Help wanted: I need people to translate the new strings in craftguide. Here is the template.
Looking mainly for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, and Russian (French is completed).
If you are not a native speaker, don't even try.

Re: [Mod] Crafting Guide [1.13] [craftguide]
Update: craftguide 1.13 released!
- Some people have complained about the slow starting of craftguide so I added a setting to disable the recipe pre-caching. Warning: if you add more mods, disabling this setting will ignore the newly added recipes. Use at your own risk.
- Prettier group tooltips.
- New background color (Discord-like).
- Updated locales (thanks Wuzzy and Hamlet).
- Bugfixes.

This announce to notify everyone that I cease to maintain this mod and furthermore to contribute to the engine.
I actually discovered a hatefest on a certain unofficial Minetest Discord server and I'm not stupid enough to actually work for or with some people who openly disrespect me. I had already left this community few years ago for the same reason, but it seems like I don't remember the learned lessons very well...
