I figured as much about the mod sources. This afternoon, I removed all the apt repository mods, and replaced them with git clones in the ~/.minetest/mods directory.

When I hit F5 and looked at the item that was showing an "unknown node" block, it said it was "ethereal:willow_wood_stair" or something to that effect. But, I already knew that, because I had built it just a couple days ago. Instead, I disabled all the mods except Ethereal, then re-enabled them one at-a-time. As soon as I enabled the moreblocks mod, the willow stairs suddenly stopped working. So, something in moreblocks doesn't like the Ethereal willow wood stair blocks—only the stair blocks. Willow trees, logs, and wood blocks still show up fine. The willow stair and slab blocks disappeared from the crafting guide as soon as I enabled moreblocks, too.

tl;dr
Ethereal is not fully compatible with moreblocks mod. Not sure which is the culprit or is easier to fix. For now, I'm leaving moreblocks disabled until there's a fix.

@T6C - When the default stairs mod or stairs redo registers a stair it creates a node similar to "stairs:willow_wood_stair", but when stairsplus creates one it ends up "ethereal:willow_wood_stair" isntead which makes any previously placed stairs an unknown node. This is why enabling a mod like stairsplus on a previously generated world never works properly.

It's not just the previously placed stairs, though. I can't even craft stairs from willow wood anymore. I've spent a lot of time on this world so far, but maybe I need to start over with a new one.

is it intentional or a bit of an oopsie that the visual scale of block leaves were set to 1.4 instead of being left at 1.0?

that's meant so that leaves overlap when using plantlike drawtype.

That makes sense. May I propose a change to the luascript?

In my testing the script works rather well, but I don't know what kind of changes you might want to add to the script, or your naming conventions.

Heck, I don't know if you would rather point the leaf visual scale to some setting in the conf file. The whole idea is, really, to stop the block-shaped leaves from z-fighting.

TenPlus1 I use a lot of your mods ... you do a great job with them.
I am getting the same error from ethereal, here are photos of the error message:

@Rayjack - this bug was fixed a few days back, try updating your ethereal mod for the fix.

Corals need updating.

First of all, the names “Orange Coral” (ethereal:coral3), “Pink Coral” (ethereal:coral4) and “Green Coral” (ethereal:coral5) collide with item names from MTG (default:coral_orange, default:coral_pink, default:coral_green). These items should be renamed. I suggest something like “Orange Glow Coral” (because they glow).

Second of all, all corals and seaweed generate ugly “air bubbles” in water. This is thankfully fixable now with the plantlike_rooted drawtype.

Thanks Wuzzy, translation updated and 'Glow' added to coral names... Normally I would use the plantlike_rooted drawtype but I'm trying to keep things 0.4x compatible for older servers.

Cool. I noticed that leaves have started to z-fight (5.3.0) when u stack 2 leaves above each other. I suspect this is because visual_size/visual_scale is too large.

are mobs/animals, able to spawn on the ethereal dirt blocks?, and are the ethereal saplings able to grow with the fertilizer?

@Wuzzy - This is on purpose so that larger leaves fill out an area.

@Ignaramico - Mobs Redo detects Ethereal biomes and spawns mobs accordingly.

Update: Giant Shroom Tops now decay when the trunk has been removed.

Shroom caps only decay when you dig a mushroom trunk within 3 blocks of them and there are no other trunks nearby.

I have just installed (last night) Ethereal, cool!
I noticed that there seems to be an issue with sand around islands. I tried a couple of (NEW) games and it was the same result. Luck of the draw i ended up on maps that were more islands than anything else so i took to the water in my canoe and from there i couldn't get onto any island that had a beach or sand points. As soon as the player was on the sand all movement control stopped (except look around). i could no longer jump or walk. the player just slides veeeerrrry slowly, almost stopped, stuck in glue. The only way out is to break the sand blocks until I fall back into the water or down onto another block. Then I can start moving and jumping again. Maybe just me, but though it best to say something.

You were standing on quicksand, and it's made to suck you underneath so you either have to place blocks to get out or swim very slowly back into water.
