I've got a "bug" report.
You see, advtrains includes a "japanese" train. Usually when peoole talk japanese trains, it's either bullet trains, a.k.a. shinkansen, or Tokyo-area trains. You don't hear people talking about Gono Line Resort Services or the Kansai Main Line. The "japanese" train in your mod possibly refers to a Tokyo-area train.

In fact, it is painted like a Yamanote Line Class E231, Saikyo Line Class E233 and Yokohama Line Class E233. I do find the JT to be emulatimg the E233 due to its lack of "separated" headlights, a feature of earlier trains.

But, its model has a longer "nose" than that; I'd say that, by model, it's trying to emulate the Class HB-E300, a diesel-electric hybrid special express train for lines hundreds of kilometres north of Tokyo.

I ask: please fix the model or fix the textures. :P
You don't have to, the mod is yours, and I could point every single problem regarding graphics, like each subway car having exactly two sets of headlights and two sets of tailights or high-vis blue coloured beacons on the track, or tiny semaphore lights on a giant grey plate... It just kinda bothers me, but I could probably make my own texture "pack" of only two textures giving the JT its Resort Hybrid appearance.

John, please update your minetest engine. You need the newest git version to use the settings object.

I am on 0.4.15. If you mean a development version such as 0.4.16, then I will update to that version.

Doors bugs:

>You need to hit A or D three times in a new train to open the doors!
>Doors are opened but you can't get off (Button says Doors closed)
>Door animation too fast (like it had only 2 frames, open and closed)
>If you had the right doors opened and want to open the left doors later, you need to close the right doors with the A key, otherwise the right doors will open (it's also a problem if you had opened the right ones and want to open the right ones again but closed them with the A key (the left ones will open) Same problem the other way around)

can confirm this bug, it has also happened on linuxworks. I still don't know exactly why it happens, since the subways work properly.

It's not an engine bug. Some of the subways at linuxworks still work correctly.

1.8.3
- Fix broken door animations caused by continuous set_object_properties
lower capacity of freight cars to 3*8
- Change log level of save_all message to atprint()
Messages saying "advtrains saved save files" no longer spam the console
- Do not clear the F table when running the init code fails
This prevents broken subway systems after a failing init code run.
- Some adaptions to the new release

Thank you! All bugs fixed!

One thing I noticed: The model of the japanese wagon isn't centered. Look at it from the side and you will see. It looks weird if you have a lokomotive in the front and in the rear of the wagon and one is touching it and the other one isn't.

I know it. Cabels are just decirations now. They can not interact with trains and ones can go without them. But it would be interesting if cabels would work for trains. Also, cabels must have wires that connect between themselves, but they are too thick now.

Hi. How do I get one of the older releases of advtrains?
The current version has errors with the "minetest.settings" function. I'm unable to upgrade to the newest minetest due to outdated repositories for my Linux distro.

This appears to be the last version that uses the old api functions.
Using GitHub, you can roll back to any commit in the past, and download it.

Since you use linux, you can simply use a ppa. http://www.minetest.net/downloads/

That would only be true for Ubuntu and its derivatives, those such as LinuxMint, Kubuntu, Peppermint, etc. Linux distributions built off of a different base (Arch, Redhat, Suse, etc) can not utilize PPAs. As of this posting, some of the links to 0.4.16 on the download page are to stable builds in official repositories, others to alpha builds in bleeding edge repositories, and others are a variation thereof. Some of the official repositories are at 0.4.15 or further back.

So, unless Me Me and Me is willing to use an unofficial build it may be a while before 4.16 is available in official repositories. Or in may never be available in still supported Linux releases that are not receiving updates other than security patches.

You can go to this page of the Advanced Trains Github site to find an older version. Click on the <> icon to the right of the older build which is back far enough to work on your setup.
