[Mod] Hardcore torchs [v0.5.3][hardtorch]

Description:
This mod will make torches much more realistic.
  • Add durability for torchs in general
  • Torches can brighten up the environment if you keep it in your hand (use leftclik)
  • It is necessary to hit a heat source with the torch or have a lighter in the inventory (optional, default is denabled)
  • Water extinguishes torches
  • Add Oil Lamp
  • Add torch sounds

Dependencies:
  • Minetest 0.4.16
  • Mod default
  • Mod fire

This is a neat idea. After all... a torch is a torch, and should burn out. Not be a permanent fixture that spams the landscape for eternity.

Does this torch lighten up the environment only when you hold it in hand or you can mount it to wall as well?
Does this torch replace the default one?

Now, you can use the left hand in Minetest. XD

Works just like normal torches.

what is the yellow spot on the hud, in the down-left? a torch in hand? Does it really lights up? :D

Yes, while the torch remains lit, it stays in the left hand.

Tried it out, the torches seem laggy when in the hand for me. Still though, great mod.

* Added Oleo (Oil).
* Added Lamparina (Lamp).
* Fixed (partially) lag with torchs lit.

I'm interested on your mod, because I am using Real Torch 0.7, which does not have handheld light, and Torches handheld light is a bit laggy for me.

I would like to have a mod like yours in my subgame, my questions are: is the handheld light better than the one in Torches? And the unlit torches in your mod can be reused like in Real Torch using flint&steel or coal powder?

No, the torch is the only light source that can not be supplied. It burned completely.

It is important to remember that this mod is not completely finished.

I've tested your mod and I've enjoyed it very much.

I like that:

- Handheld torches/lamps are in the left hand, allowing to use the right hand to hold a sword while exploring a cave. This is a big improvement in explorative-gameplay; and no more stacks of torches cluttering the inventory and littering the caves.

- Torches and oil lamps' uses can be set using Settings -> Advanced Settings -> Mods menu - I've set them to 1.0 and 3.0; 1 night for a torch, 3 nights for an oil lamp.

- Torches are like any other tool: no more uses, no more tool. This encourages crafting the oil lamp, that can be refilled.


About the ligthing while moving, it isn't perfect, but I do not care because of what I have written above.

Thank you for this mod, I am going to use it by default; keep up the good work!

Okay, finaly. 0.5.0-alpha version pre-released!
  • Added all torch sounds
  • Oil Lamp nodebox improved
  • Added lighting system
  • Added API for torchs and other mods support
  • other things :P
After the tests will be released definitively.
tests are being performed on the minemacro server.

Definitely a great update! Honestly when I tried the direct previous version it started crashing on my Standard Survival (No technology) world, 10/10 for excellent updates!

EDIT: The crash happened again, only when I placed a torch though.

EDIT: As well as lamp duplication... They then both deleted themselves along with one of my one-hundred and fifty torches, hopefully this has been helpful (For the mod developer: BrunoMine)!

Lamp duplication: Place lamp, break lamp and place again. deletion occured when trying to light one of the two lamps; torch was unlit and relit with about 50% durability, soon after it acted like /pulverize was used, singleplayer on same world that that the prevous crashes have occured. You are welcome.

EDIT: I right-clicked a chest and the lamp deleted itself, tested on different world.

I tried to perform these movements as fast as possible (in creative mode and survival), but I could not duplicate the bulbs. However I managed to get more oil. I fixed this now. I do not know if the problem in question has been solved. Can you give more details? Was the lamp on when you put it on? you was in Survival mode?

I can not reproduce this error. I just put two lamps in the inventory and one oil. I can light one of them and the other one remains erased.

Strangely I am getting the effects you're getting from this duplication bug on the prevous version of the mod, apparently I accidentally right-clicked on the Mechanical Door in one of my structures with that torch, I tried replicating the lamps deleting (apparently on the wrong block to replicate it, apparently that was the chest deletion bug.) themselves- no luck, I downloaded the current version of this mod and tested again. All the bugs I have found so far are fixed, you're welcome.

On the note of the Github error reports being more organized through the repository: Will do, thank you for the information.
