Thanks for the help :)
Sorry, I thought you must be the one running the server. I agree that some of the levels could use some balancing, however, it is impossible to keep everyone happy and I do think a full set of diamond armor should offer a good deal of protection, maybe it would be easier just to make the diamond sword a bit stronger ;-)
I am an admin, on the server in question, but not the owner :D

Anyway, I understand that you wish to please all who use this mod by having the armor protection levels a touch high, however I personally believe it would please more to have them lowered as the majority of servers that have this mod installed also have PvP enabled, showing that the owner of that server does not disapprove of the killing of players or players taking damage from others, and neither do the players on that server, else they would not be there.

Therefore having armor levels extremely high, on a PvP-enabled server, is pointless as then there is no point to combat between players if it takes over 20 strikes to a client (without healing) to kill them, especially if you have to resort to using a Diamond Sword to even harm one with A full set of Diamond Armor.

On servers which have installed your mod, but have not enabled PvP, then likewise, are the armor levels unnecessarily high: since fighting is disallowed, what is the point of having extremely high protection levels if no-one shall attack you in the first?

Hence the protection levels on each armor could, most likely, be reduced by a couple of levels without displeasing the majority of players on Minetest: my point and conclusion of this post.

Ok, you do make some fair points so I will look at reducing some levels when I get time to do all the necessary testing. In the meantime, if you (or anyone else) can come up with some sensible default levels, I will alter them accordingly if nobody else objects.

I suggest making defense levels in %.
For example, torso armour would be like 45%, head - 15%, leggings - 25% and any other together - 15%.
Then make a variable of a maximum defense level.

This way any server owner will be able to reduce efficiency very easily while leaving internal mechanics the same.

Thank You,

I was originally a MineCraft client and player until just over a year ago when I temporarily quit it and discovered MineTest, yet I am up to date with many of their developments; I admire their armor protection levels as although I do not know how it works for each individual item, in terms of how it contributes to the full armor protection, they do not seem in anyway irrational but rather stable and appropriate, for their function, in all ways.

They seem to be quite sensible and therefore I think that (for the diamond armor at least), MineCraft's protection levels are not far of an excellent protection default for each individual armor item, hence I would recommend that these armor default could be somewhat like it, even through I accept that MineTest was not to be a free copy of Minecraft, and therefore should not become one...

Can you explain me how i can move the "armor position bar" ?
A solution like "better_hud"(in hud.conf.example) mod is available or possible ?

Is there any way to change the layers that the armor go on?

You would need to change armor.formspec, see http://dev.minetest.net/formspec or just look at the better HUD mod and see how BlockMen did it ;-)

Not too sure what you mean but there is an experimental 'multiskin' branch which supports an additional 'clothing' layer, maybe you could take a look at that.

BetterHud makes it pretty simple;

Here is a copy of my Hud config file with 3 different placements for the indicators.

I am partial to the first configuration,
the armor and air indicators can sometimes block HUD tool tips.

Code: Select all

HUD_ENABLE_HUNGER = true
HUD_HUNGER_TICK = 300

--Armor and Air Indicators to UpperRight Corner of Screen
--Health and Hunger remain in Default Positions above HUD
--HUD_ARMOR_POS = {x=1,y=0}
--HUD_ARMOR_OFFSET = {x=-280,y=40}
--HUD_HEALTH_POS = {x=0.5,y=1}
--HUD_HEALTH_OFFSET = {x=-320, y=-87}
--HUD_HUNGER_POS = {x=0.5,y=1}
--HUD_HUNGER_OFFSET = {x=80, y=-87}
--HUD_AIR_POS = {x=1,y=0}
--HUD_AIR_OFFSET = {x=-280,y=75}

--all indicators moved to UpperRight Corner of Screen
--HUD_ARMOR_POS = {x=1,y=0}
--HUD_ARMOR_OFFSET = {x=-280,y=40}
--HUD_HEALTH_POS = {x=1,y=0}
--HUD_HEALTH_OFFSET = {x=-280,y=75}
--HUD_HUNGER_POS = {x=1,y=0}
--HUD_HUNGER_OFFSET = {x=-280,y=110}
--HUD_AIR_POS = {x=1,y=0}
--HUD_AIR_OFFSET = {x=-280,y=145}

--all indicators display above HUD
--Armor and Health on Left / Air and Hunger on the right
--HUD_ARMOR_POS = {x=0.5,y=1}
--HUD_ARMOR_OFFSET= {x=-320, y=-122}
--HUD_HEALTH_POS = {x=0.5,y=1}
--HUD_HEALTH_OFFSET = {x=-320, y=-87}
--HUD_HUNGER_POS = {x=0.5,y=1}
--HUD_HUNGER_OFFSET = {x=80, y=-87}
--HUD_AIR_POS= {x=0.5,y=1}
--HUD_AIR_OFFSET = {x=80, y=-122}

If you do not understand the code then you will have to explain exactly what you are trying to achieve in some more detail, maybe then I can help you :-)

Well, Minecraft diamond armor looks like this:

and Minecraft diamond leggings look like this:

If you were to take Minecraft textures and apply them to this mod, it would end up looking something like this:

I wanna know know to make the chestplate on a different layer than the leggings.

I´ve just updated 3d_armor and now I get the following error

Code: Select all

00:20:55: ERROR[main]: ServerError: /home/ruehmann/.minetest/mods/3d_armor/3d_armor/armor.lua:386: attempt to call field 'get_type' (a nil value)

I am using unified inventory and u_skins, I´ve updated them to.
How can I get it back to work?
I am using the newest git minetest version.

Hi, Napiophelios

Please, can you give me a configuration like your "Config #3" you linked but, with all the status bar with "a notch" up ? Thank you :)
(i have a configuration like this actually, and i want to confront your settings with my settings)

This should work, but I forgot to mention you will have to adj the "x" position var
I have 12 not 8 spaces on the HUD/hotbar.

Code: Select all

HUD_ENABLE_HUNGER = true
HUD_HUNGER_TICK = 300

HUD_ARMOR_POS = {x=0.5,y=1}
HUD_ARMOR_OFFSET= {x=-320, y=-154}
HUD_HEALTH_POS = {x=0.5,y=1}
HUD_HEALTH_OFFSET = {x=-320, y=-122}
HUD_HUNGER_POS = {x=0.5,y=1}
HUD_HUNGER_OFFSET = {x=80, y=-122}
HUD_AIR_POS= {x=0.5,y=1}
HUD_AIR_OFFSET = {x=80, y=-154}
Basically each "notch" will be 35, either plus or minus, depending which way you wanna go.

There is no simple way to do that with the api,. I think you would need to alter the model file and re-export it.
I am afraid I am really not interested in making it look anymore more like Minecraft than it already does, sorry.

You are using an incompatible version/fork of the u_skins mod.
This is the one officially supported here: https://github.com/dmonty2/minetest-u_skinsdb

Yes, Blender. It is really not that difficult to use, especially for blocky models like the 3d_armor model and there are plenty of tutorials out there that teach all the basic stuff you need to know.

Hello
I had this problem a time ago
and changed it by alter the mod and adding a setting for the inventorys
because I have to use inventory+ and modmenu for some mods such as specialties that cannot integrate with unified inventory and using unified inventory as default the Button for 3d_armor is not displayed in unified inventory but only in modmenu.
Is it Possible to change that?
I don´t know so much about github and programming.
but my changes should somewhere in the thread.
Thanks,
JPR

P.S. The Tip with the other u_skins mod has helped.

Officially, this mod supports either inventory_plus OR unified_inventory, otherwise I would be constantly spammed with weird bug reports

However, If you can post your full code changes somewhere like pastebin then I will look them over.

If I remember, Blockmen's Crafting mod is compatible with this mod. However, It does not have space to place shields.,

"how to use blender?"
I have no experience on using Blender and I don't have any plans of trying to find out how either.
And besides, I know 1% of the things that you can do in luacode, this is what I know: How to sort the Crafting mod creative inventory, and, how to change a blocks crafting recipe, change its texture, and rename it, THE END.
That makes it pretty hard to edit the mod.
