I know this sounds stupid but I was playing around with the wool and this mod and only white wool flies...

Happens to me as well, and the wool is just white.

This is nice, but why isn't there a crafting recipe? It should be very useful in creative.

How do I use "an acceptable renderer"?

I am running Kubuntu 14.04 with the OS radeon driver. Installed minetest from the official minetest repository.

Would it help if I compile Mintetest from source?

Rochambeau, the official minetest repo has version 0.4.10 and 0.4.11 will be out soon (next month or so), you have 0.4.6.
Time to update!

Now, compiling from source would definitely help a lot, you can use the script that i wrote for that purpose from https://gist.github.com/Fritigern/4e21484ec27d6416cc49
Do read the commented lines in the script though, they may contain important info and instructions :-)

Just like you said "the official minetest repo has version 0.4.10", i installed Minetest via that repo and have 0.4.10. (see my post again). Why do you think I have 0.4.6.?

you need to extract the .rar file, it should have all the lua and texture files in it.

Mintest 0.4.14 have same behaviour (

How exactly I create a flying ship?
Sometimes I can get a message on the console "ACTION[Server]: singleplayer activates flyingmachine:controller" but I don't know what I'm doing to activate it. Also no matter what I do nothing happens on the game, I made a small 'U' shaped 3 block long ship of wool and am staring at the positive x direction but it doesn't fly, I imagine the controller is a node but I can't place it onto any other node, is this suppose to happen?

The mod is kinda old...

* built a square of steelblocks and on it...
* ...built some shape out of default:wood (wool:white and default:fence_wood also supported)

I think I had misunderstood it, I was trying to place the controller block on the wool block without success. On the steel it worked fine, thanks for the help. However the controller detached itself from the ship when I flew it, so there is that

That's probably what davidthecreator warned about with his "The mod is kinda old..." A lot of time has passed and the controller doesn't attach to the ship tightly no more...
