Ok, here's the deal. You have an entire game with an 80 MB text file compressed in a rar archive. The whole file is 9.2 MB.
Here's my recommendations:
Only include files that are relevant to the map. e.g. textures, mods, and the world with a readme file telling people where to put the files.
Compress it with 7zip instead of rar.
If you do that, people who don't use Windows(quite a lot on minetest) can use it without having to resort to WINE, and the download size would be reduced to around 3MB.

.zip files can be extracted on Linux without using Wine... or did he modify the source?hmmm wrote:Ok, here's the deal. You have an entire game with an 80 MB text file compressed in a rar archive. The whole file is 9.2 MB.

.rar aswell, can be extracted on Linux without using Wine. (works like a charm under my gfx gnome env without adding/install any particular special strange binaries) ...Calinou wrote:.zip files can be extracted on Linux without using Wine... or did he modify the source?hmmm wrote:Ok, here's the deal. Seriously people, I give up!
Calinou: I didn't even mention zip files.
redcrab: I'm fully aware that you can compress and decompress rar in linux natively. My whole point of using 7zip instead is 7zip compresses better than rar and isn't proprietary like rar.
My whole point about Wine is you have a Windows build instead of just the relative files concerning the map.
In other words, just read what I posted and use common sense.
I won't elaborate further, I shouldn't have even have had to post this reply.
