Presented by a common waste disposal unit:
The Filigree’d Tower.
It’s pretty and there’s a massive area to build in inside those walls, each of 8 available lots is 120 X 120 nodes.
There’s many ways you could organise this challenge but it’s way too big for all but the most dedicated of players to do individually.
You could assign different sectors to different teams of builders and see what they come up with. Or you could assign different areas for a city, Poor Quarter, Merchant’s Quarter, etc and let people play where they like.
No Mods Required.
On this map Spawn Point is in the middle of the Grand Ballroom on the ground floor of the main keep.
Creative Mode and Flying are already enabled. (singleplayer) WorldEdit and Mapfix are already installed and operational.
If you want to create a Schematic file of it to use in another map the coordinates are:
Position 1: 206, 6, 206
Position 2: -206, 70, -206
Yep, that’s more than 11,000,000 nodes, might take a while. The reason for taking three levels of ground is because of the ballroom in the main keep, it’s floor goes three levels deep for the lighting.

Re: [Community Challenge] Build a city inside the walls.
This seems interresting. I'd be ready to help build one sector. I am building a few houses on some server, and making a ctf map. But I'd like to help. I'd rather have a corner sector, however.
I'll learn how to use World-Edit, then maybe we can share the schematics for sectors.
I'll probably make a sector in the next month or so.

Re: [Community Challenge] Build a city inside the walls.
Hi Brian,
Thanks for your reply. I meant this to be something people could add to their own server for their own community to play with amongst themselves rather than the community on this forum, but if enough people are interested why not?
It's more the result of a tutorial I wrote. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=19572#p313077
I never play online myself, I'm a very grumpy old man that always ends up spoiling everyone else's fun. I've got the big bushy grey beard and everything.
Cheers,
Andrew.

Hi Andrew - I'm a teacher looking to get MT going in my school; just found this map and want to thank you. Great starting point for a class activity. I'll incorporate this soon.

That's fantastic! I think, slopsbucket's map is a perfect starting point, and I wish you a good success in your teachings!mcgt wrote:Great starting point for a class activity.
And I would be glad, if you could tell us, how it was with Minetest in the classroom.

So, it would be ok to put this on a public server ?slopsbucket wrote:The Filigree’d Tower.

assign different sectors to different teams of builders and see what they come up with.
(And maybe change those sandstone walls / roofs to some other material ?)

Absolutely, Hajo. Feel free to do what ever you like with it.hajo wrote:So, it would be ok to put this on a public server ?

I thought that was kind of the point of posting maps here, so that people could play with them. :)
Cheers,
Andrew.
