[W.I.P][Map] Stampy's lovely world

by Morn76 » Sun Feb 16, 2014 20:20

*************************************************************************************
Minetest map based on Stampy's Lovely World and Stampy's and Squid's Quest World from the popular YouTube MC Let's Play series
*************************************************************************************
Image
Latest map version (2017-08-12) download:
Google Drive (direct download): https://drive.google.com/uc?id=0B8JgjbLT8IxxeTlwcUg1ZDlJRGc&export=download

Here are some generic installation instructions for MT maps

Hint: For the bright and cheerful Stampy video look, set the gamma to 3 in your minetest.conf ("display_gamma = 3") if you are using a current version of Minetest (January 2017 or later). For older MT versions, set gamma to 1 instead.

Notes about this map

I have made some changes, e.g. the lighthouse, submarine, and emergency igloo have been rearranged to fit the MT landscape. But otherwise I have tried to be quite faithful to the original. Stampy's balcony faces North on this map (on the real MC map it faces West), so e.g. the wood grain is 90° rotated compared to the original.

The balloon, theater, the Funland, and some buildings (the washing saloon, radio station, fireworks shop, shoe shop, and the minecart track-based restaurant) are converted from the excellent MC Stampy map by VinnieBuzz. Everything else has been built from scratch in MT by carefully studying Stampy's videos.

You may want to convert the map from SQLite to LevelDB format if your MT build supports it (with "minetestserver --worldname stampyworld --migrate leveldb") to improve performance.

The Stampy game (recommended for this map)

The latest version of this map requires the Stampy game (ZIP file), a fork of minetest_game with many MC-like improvements (animals, googlies, blocks, textures, tools,…) to Minetest. Unzip the game into the games folder (e.g. ~/.minetest/games/ on Linux). Select the Stampy game in the icon bar at the bottom of the main menu and the map should be listed.

If the game does not start, you have to add "secure.enable_security = false" to your minetest.conf file and restart Minetest.

There is also an experimental, slightly older version of the Stampy game with Unified Inventory if you prefer that: https://github.com/mdoege/stampyu_game

If you need other mods, you can use MT-GitSync to clone mod repos. Add the mods to the worldmods folder of this map or the active game folder.

Using the MineClone 2 game instead (experimental)

If you would like to use this map with MC2, edit world.mt and set "gameid = MineClone2". Get the world mods from https://github.com/mdoege/stampy_map_mineclone2_worldmods (ZIP file) and put them in the map's directory. (Please start with a freshly unzipped copy of the map, not one which MineClone 2 has already touched without the worldmods in place!) This should enable support for all of the blocks on the map in MC2 and most of the items.

Watch Stampy and Ibaslicsquid everyday, love their commentary. This is so cool, have you made a screenshot you should sent it to Stampy, he'd probably give you a shout out in his Love Garden.

Map update #1

First of all, thanks for your nice comments, nman and cheerfulcherub! I really appreciate it.

Today I have updated the map slightly. It now includes the S.S. Stampy (her inside is a bit simpler than the original because I have not built the underwater part of the hull, but on the outside it should be correct) and the front and lobby of Stampy's lovely theater. Also, some minor fixes and improvements here and there. I'm not sure yet if I should do the _complete_ theater, it's kind of huge and not that lovely from the outside. :-)

For now I prefer not to use too many mods and keep everything almost vanilla Minetest on this map, but maybe once everything I wanted is built, I could try to turn this into a "fancy" map with mine carts, mesecons, hatches, paintings, item frames, cauldrons, etc. It would sort of be interesting to see how close we can get via mods.

I cannot figure out how to edit my first post to replace the old attachment, so the new map version is attached to this post here. Hope that's alright.

Map update #2

The S.S. Stampy now has proper inside furnishings and updated sails and Stampy's lovely submarine has been added next to it. Also, the "chicken tower" at the front of the house has been added and there has been some terraforming around the still very incomplete theater.

Map update #3

Stampy's lovely lighthouse (fully built inside) and the bridge leading to it have been added. The lighthouse is in a different direction relative to the house compared to Stampy's map because it needs to be near the sea. But it is about halfway between the (0,0)-spawnpoint and the house, so in that way it is in the correct spot.

The store room (lower level) and adjoining area has been remodeled to fix some mistakes. The entrance hall now has the skylight beneath the lava globe.

Screenshot (with visibility set to max):

I'd really like to do Squid's room in the doghouse, but unforunately I don't remember which video had a decent, slow tour of it.

Map update #4

The map now requires some additional mods (see first post for GitHub URLs): carts, food, mesecons, itemframes, and hatches

New buildings on the map include the emergency igloo near the spawn point, a minecart track that doesn't yet work so well (needs more power rails I suppose), and Stampy's and Squid's current houses in their ender world.

This post has been personally approved by Smooch. :-)

Greetings,

My players screamed like little kids, jumped up and down and ran off to their comptuers when they saw this. Very cool. Yes, they are little kids.

BTW: Opened it up as a public servers and with in 10 minutes, someone cracked the lava and burnt the whole place down...lol

Ha ha, this is hilarious. I'm glad they liked it!

I suppose Stampy now needs to go and build an impentrable wall of cakes around his house to protect it from griefers. Stampy style! ;-)

I suppose if you cover the water-dispensing tower with a little obisidian to protect itself it would be the perfect place for raining fire and destruction on the rest of the map. :-)

Map update #5

Thanks to some WorldEdit trickery, the club house building has been moved to its correct position and is now fully built inside. So the living room, kitchen, inspiration room, library (with Stampy's hidden treasure room!), and swimming pool are all there now. The S.S. Stampy (with her original sails) is now also anchored behind the club house. The ground under the ender world houses is now solid dirt and can be dug safely without falling into a cave. Therefore, Smooch's little swimming pool is also much safer than before and that is very important. :-)

The new ZIP file is attached to this post.

Map update #6

Stampy's shops have been added, so the flower shop, Stampy's Overwear, Stampy's Hot Buns, Pick-A-Pet pet shop, the Melon Moments fruit stand, the toy shop with its hidden underground room and the Crazy Cow milk bar are now all open for business, which is very convenient whenever Stampy needs something quickly.

In the club house building, rooms have been moved slightly further into the mountain to get enough space for the second staircase.

The updated ZIP file is attached to this post.

I hadn't really thought of videos, no. But maybe we should invite the real Stampy to try out Minetest in one of his YoutTube videos and visit this map. With player_textures installed he could even use the correct skin in MT. ;-)

Yes, but I'm not so sure about Timmy's and Smooch's houses yet. Are they lovely or monstrosities? Or both? :-)

Hmmm. I think Mittens' tree house and the tree train station might be next, now that I've figured out how to do non-decaying leaves in MT.

Stamps and squids statue houses look exactly the same as the ones in the series. And i would love to see mittens' house and the train station. Also maybe build some more shops

Map update #7

The tree train station (without a train track for now), Mittens' tree house, and Squid's room in the dog house have been added. There have also been fixes and imrovements to the emergency igloo, the quest world area, and Stampy's Hot Buns.

Note that you may need to install WorldEdit (https://github.com/Uberi/Minetest-WorldEdit) because I forgot to disable it in the world configuration. Oops.

The updated ZIP file is attached to this post.

We can has destruction (with an older version of the map). :-)

The aftermath. The water tower also works as a sprinkler system, so the bedroom building stays relatively unharmed. The rest of the map not so much.
