Minetest-like game featuring shadows!!

by crazy_baboon » Sat Oct 20, 2018 22:34

Yep,

I found out that the amazing game Craft (https://www.michaelfogleman.com/projects/craft/) has a branch that implements shadows:

Image

To run them on a GNU/Linux system go to https://github.com/mpaoloni/Craft/tree/shadow and:

Code: Select all
git clone --single-branch -b shadow https://github.com/mpaoloni/Craft.git
cd Craft
cmake .
make
./craft

The licensing of Craft is MIT, so I think the code that implements the shadows could be imported into Minetest by someone with sufficient talent!

What do you guys think?

looks nice but, sucks the life right outta the FPS... drastically

I've never had a problem running craft for about a year now, nice fps... until now
But this is what shaders do... you can either have pretty stuff to look at, and not do much else... or pass on them and enjoy the game

Might be worth trying to contact the individual who did the work on this branch to see if they could be interested in MT

@TumeniNodes

I also noticed a drop in my frame rate, but thought that was because my graphics card is absolute poop!

What is your output to
Code: Select all
lspci -vnn | grep VGA -A 12
?

Pretty early alpha stage, but the shadows branch runs without any issues here.

In my other laptop, a Lenovo Skylake GT2 [HD Graphics 520], the shadows branch runs really nice and smooth!

Great lighting feature, wish it could be implemented in Minetest!
