Create a creative, serious build team.

by Horka » Post

Hi everyone,
Just a little poll that may lead to something: who would be up for serious creative projects of great importance.
To create medieval city, historical reconstruction, projects or other...
We could make videos or not, just for fun... or create a server. What do think ?
Like some MC build team.
In short, create a team buid for minetest.
I think that could be nice. Give me your opinion. THANKS.
Are there people who play (serious) creative at least, or am I the only one? I feel like most servers/players are creative or pvp focused. Maybe I'm wrong.

Also I don't know.
Also no one has joined the group yet so it's not much use. If anyone wants to join the group but doesn't like discord, let him tell me and I'll switch platforms.
In any case, thank you because you are the only one to answer me ಥ‿ಥ

Matrix is open-source, Discord is closed-source Proprietary software controlled by one company. Matrix gives you control, does not monitor you(And if it did you could change that). Matrix allows any client to interact with it, discord only allow discord.com to interact with it. Discord can change anything at any time. If a changes happens in Matrix that you do not like then you can just stay on the old version. And if the company shutdowns then you would be able to use discord again. If the company that created matrix shutdowns other people can still contribute to it and give it updates.
But the main reason is that Discords primary goal is to make money. There probably would not open-source it if the company went down, because to there line of thinking, they would not make any money from it so whats the point!
The comapy that created matrix CAN control there version and can make changes that you do not like, BUT it is discrantled so you can just choose another server that freadtes with matrix or self-host.
MInetest should only rely on open-source software, but it use discord as its official communication. ugh, but they require all mods on content.minetest.net be open-source.

Okay, thank you very much for your explanation
My objectif is to attract as many people as possible.
Also, do you know how I can conduct a survey? Is it possible to create one where people can check their preferences?
Having a link to the survey on the blog or in the forum would be helpful, and I could see which option is most useful.
Thanks

I'm going to promote this project on the Minetest blog if possible and conduct a survey for those who would like to join.
Do you prefer Discord or Matrix/Element?

I've been following the thread since it started Horka, but I think that since there is no goal set and only a very general direction, that people find it to hard to see why they should join. I take it you will focus on creative-mode builds but that is still a broad category.

Which game(s) for Minetest are you most interested in? Are you open to using mods? If so, which? Are there set start times and time limits on builds? Will there be a creative server for all the builds with worldedit and other helpful mods?

Those are just some helpful questions you may want to address and that may help invite more people along. It is sometimes better to start something (even if you have to do the first build on your own) than to wait around for someone else before beginning. Just my 2 cents, hope that helps.

Hi, thank you for your help.
I've already talked about this in other places, that's why I haven't reposted it here.

Here are some answers to your questions:

What I would like:
To play Minetest game, which is simple for everyone and is sufficient.
Yes, of course, in creative mode.
The use of tools such as world edit or edit is essential in my opinion, but also for decoration.
No time limit, I don't think so.
What I like is to rebuild lost civilizations: ancient Greece, temples, Incas, Egypt, the Middle Ages. But on really colossal projects, not just one monument. The decor and the environment. I want an amazing result.
To make time-lapse videos and post them on YouTube. This is very interesting to me because I enjoy it, but I think it would also attract people to the Minetest community if I find good builders to help me with this project.

That's what I would like.

But my goal is to attract people, so I shouldn't give too many restrictions because I'm open to other ideas, and I also think that not everyone necessarily likes the same things as me.

I hope you have some answers, and if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate.

Some people have told me that I should show what I'm capable of because it would attract more people, but the problem with this kind of thing is that building all this alone would take me several months at least.

But I can draw well too, I could make a plan, but how? And that's a big problem for me because I would need an extremely detailed plan for people to understand what I want.

So I don't know what to do, I'm alone. And I have no knowledge.

So if you have any proposals, any ideas, anyone who could help me, I'll take it. I really don't intend to give up on this project that is dear to me. I know it's going to take a long time to complete and there's a lot of work to be done. But I think it's worth it.

Furthermore, no one is responding to me, so I feel like I'm alone and that others don't care a little bit because there are quite a few views on my posts. So if people are interested, I don't know. They have to ask questions, like you. Thank you.

For the server, I would like a closed server that only those who are part of the team can join, at least during construction. Then why not share it with the rest of the community

I think the building process will take several months. And the schedule will be determined with the others so that no builder is ever alone. I think we could designate a leader who would assign specific tasks to others. I want something precise for others so that we don't build blindly, such as the type of blocks, mods, decoration, locations, lengths, textures... and have an incredible and proportionate realistic rendering. And if this works, why not create our own blocks for our projects?

@Horka,

Big project. Overwhelmingly big. Where to start???

Step 1. Listen to the advise you are given.

Step 2. Spend time with pen and paper, or text editor, and flesh out your thoughts and ideas, putting them down in an organized manner, long before posting anything. A topic that consists of random thoughts will get you nowhere fast!

Step 3. Join a creative build server, and show your chops. Also, you'll find other like minded builders a lot faster.

Step 4. All builds begin by placing a node. Start placing nodes.

Now, lets get a little more informative. You mention that you can draw. Get some graph paper, and start drawing building plans, one slice at a time. Look on the forum for the building plan topic to see what I am referring to. Also, sketch something and post it here, to give others an idea of your skill set.

Join creative servers. You will not only meet like minded players more quickly, but you can also show your skills. Good builders get attention.

You mentioned a private server for team members, which is a great idea. So start hosting the server, and as you "grow" your team, invite them to the server.

Every project HAS to start somewhere. The bigger the project, the more details are involved. Start fleshing out those details, and you'll begin to see where you can start.

Every build begins by placing nodes.

Ok, really useful for me.
Thank you very much for your answer, I will of course take it into account.
For the moment I am looking for a project to do alone to show others what I would like to do.
THANK YOU
