Huh? Are you sure? I am living at the border between Mordor and Lorien and I contantly see mobs fighting each other at the border. They really HATE each other.

I have been unable to find any obsidian. I have dug down to a lava flow next to a lake and made the water touch the lake -- producing more cobblestone. Where can I find some obsidian? Thanks.

nice game! i would just say that game name is a bit... simple. IMHO we should stop using "test" suffix everywhere, minetest was not even supposed to be called like this.

You need to make sure that the water touches lava source blocks, not flowing lava. (The lava nodes inside the circle in this image are source blocks, the others are flowing blocks:

And how would you know that?
No, i doubt its v6, this error is most likely caused by an unknown mapgen (in case of any other mapgen that is not v6,7 or singlenode).
