Finally, dynamic shadows in a stable update! Been a long time coming.

By the way, if anyone wants to activate dynamic shadows in any game that doesn't have support yet, you can check out the enable_shadows mod.

Awesome, can't wait to give it a bash :P Thanks guys!

Note: Any chance of getting the 5.6.0 .deb included with the latest Ubuntu 22.04.1 repo when it's released?

Just: thanks.

Besides the "big" new features like dynamic shadows and multi-threading, I see that the team has spent some time to improve the documentation and this is also really nice - I know how gathering and checking facts can be a chore.

Thank you for releasing an official build for MacOS. 5.6.0 resolved an input problem that kept me from being able to play any of the 5.5.x releases, so I'm very glad to be able to finally upgrade.

the website says macOS 10.10 or later is recommended. but you need macos 10.14 or later. i am running macos 10.12 on macbook uni-white 2010. can't handle linux.
If my post says something, it is a opinion and not fact unless i say so

There is a typo for 5.5.0-5.6.0 (the link says https://dev.minetest.net/Changelog#5.5. ... 6.92_5.8.0

(5.8.0 is incorrect)

Ah! Finally, the sideways movement with autoforwards issue is addressed. The freedom of movement! I have to reactivate the neural pathways to tell myself I can go sideways again now.

Congratulations on the release and thanks to everyone working on it!

(I still wish the changelog would link to the main issues/PRs for the entries.)

try a different distro then ( maybe feadora / elementary OS / garuda ) or update MacOS

I tried lots of distros, but every single one of them gets OOM(out of memory). Can't update macos past 10.13.
does not matter anymore as it runs fine under wine. https://www.winehq.org

good to see that you found a solution :D
Spoiler
(also not updating sounds very insecure to me as an archlinux user that is updating right now i hope your browser is up to date at least )

Congurations to the new product version released (v5.6.0).
Personally, I think the 8/5th will be the better release date of this software product (game engine).

Please also share the product road map(s) and the new features (and milestones) of the next version (5.6.x or 5.7.0) if possible.

Thank you very much for your help and support.

Best Regards,

Edit: This has been fixing by recloning minetest. cmake is causing issues I can't really debug.

I compiled minetest 5.6.0 from git today, and got the following error:

Code: Select all

did anyone get it too? Any ideas on how to fix this?
