[0.4.17] Backporting of bug fixes to 0.4 has started

by rubenwardy » Post

In order to improve both quality and stability, we have started backporting bug fixes to the last stable release of Minetest. This means that 0.4 will benefit from the bug fixes done in development branches without any of the instability or incompatibilities caused by new features.

The bug fixes will be backported on the backport-0.4 branch on both minetest and minetest_game. Eventually this branch will be released as 0.4.17, but until then we recommend that servers switch to it for added fixes since the 0.4.16 release.

0.5.0 is unique because it is mostly untested by servers due to the break in network compatibility.
This backport will ensure that 0.4 receives the fixes it needs and allow users to stay on 0.4 a little bit longer.

If you are on Windows and would like to use 0.4.17-dev, take a look at my builds page.
(though note 32-bit might be broken currently)

Since that's a fairly minor feature it might be added to the backport branch once it's merged.

Is there a build page for .deb packages?

For Ubuntu and its derivatives you could use the Daily Builds PPA. It's not updated anywhere near to on a daily basis ; but, the latest build is today. One caveat:
The version number of the package is compile date; please check your actual version in-game.
There is also the PPA for Stable Releases. The last build was for MT 0.4.16 on 3 June 2017. I'm not aware a separate source for backported bug fixes to this PPA.
