Re: Minetest 0.4.17 (Bugfix release)
For those many of you who have had servers being attacked by world-copying bot players that travel across as much terrain as possible, greatly increasing your world database size, 0.4.17 makes any previously generated world outside 'mapgen_limit' function normally, so you can now reduce the limit as much as you need to, to control how large your world database becomes.
'mapgen_limit' now acts as it was originally intended, it only controls where mapgen stops generating new mapchunks, it does not create a world edge if previously generated world lies outside it.

Very good. I will update my server shortly after 0.4.17 hits backports.

Re: Minetest 0.4.17 (Bugfix release)
I use one of the new Ubuntu mate versions. There it is only the package manager. I would like to 0.4.17 on the data. How do I do it now? Because there is still the 0.4.16 available. And what else: can it be done so that the Hotbar no longer takes as much fps away because I always have 20-30 fps less with Hotbar.
Spoiler

Re: Minetest 0.4.17 (Bugfix release)
I did it,
Ubuntu 16.04 still and now 0.4.17
starting and loading faster
Windows 7 Pro
starting and loading faster,
but instead of 6 instances with 6 GB Ram, there are now only 4 !!! (with the 64bit version)
if I use the 32bit, I can still start 6 instance = 32bit uses less memory, maybe important for those have to less
but basically I like it

Interesting. I don't know about a change which improved it that much. Check whether all your mods are enabled and loading correctly.Festus1965 wrote:starting and loading faster,

Since it's our primary game to ship with Minetest it would be nonsense to keep that outdated when there are some security fixes available for the servers.Wuzzy wrote:Just to be clear: There is no Minetest Game 0.4.17, right? If yes, should be mentioned in first post.
Check out the releases page on GitHub: https://github.com/minetest/minetest_game/releases
Also when fetching the tags (and the branches) from the repository you will notice a new tag and the stable branch being updated. Both can be used to update the local clone of the repository to the correct version.

Re: Minetest 0.4.17 (Bugfix release)
any chance of a gc64bit windows version, as the regular 64bit windows version fails to load my worlds (with dreambuilder mod) with a lua OOM error (37MB) I get the same with 0.4.16 where the regular version crashes but the gc64 version is ok.

Is next version 0.4.18? Will this be bugfix release, either?

Re: Minetest 0.4.17 (Bugfix release)
The original plan was releasing 0.4.17 short before 0.5 and mid-April.Andrey01 wrote:Is next version 0.4.18? Will this be bugfix release, either?
So sticking to that plan the release is very belated and there won't be a 0.4.18 but the 0.5 release "shortly after" the current version. But sticking to reality we won't see 0.5 before June.
