All that I have to do now is wait for Linux binaries (specifically DEB and RPM packages), and I'm ready to try what's new.
The new api didn't break much stuff;
And linux downloads are at https://gitlab.com/minetest/minetest/pi ... ags&page=1, look at the 5.0.0 tag.
Idk why sfan didn't add them
I don't have anything important to say.

Minetest 5.0 win64 build has Luajit with gc64 support, apparently, that means much less OOMs (can use >1GB of mem). Will see how it goes...

90% of mods need to update. It is theoretically faster.

Hurray :)) *sigh* (sound of profound relief).

This time not a screenshot yet since Minetest number 5 is still being downloaded on my laptop at the very moment... I hope you'll forgive me a little kitschy form of this pic, but I just have to somehow express my sincere joy.

Thanks, devs!

is good the original version in minetest and I also like this version that will request and that has new mods on "minetest_game" and therefore the other version of minetest 0.4.17.1 has been very little that there is mush work to do the possible.

I looked over there. 5.0.0 has already landed over in the stable PPA, at https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+ar ... ntu/stable. I plan on using this repository once I have some time.

Wrong. Over 90 % of my mods work fine, except roads mod. And as the core devs said 5.0.0 modding API changes wouldn`t affect most mods and they wouldn`t be broken.

As of time/date of this post for all “stable” versions:

Flatpak: Updated
Debian: Extremely outdated
Ubuntu: Internal server error
Ubuntu PPA: Updated
Fedora: Outdated
openSUSE: Outdated
Mageia Outdated
Arch Linux: Outdated
Gentoo: Outdated

VoidLinux Updated

Overall it’s very sad. Is there anything we as a community can do?

I think you'd have to bug the people maintaining the distro and get them to update the Minetest version they provide.

@CannibalCarrot What OS do you use? Have you looked into compiling from source?

@Nathan.S:
Great video! Good summary of the changes.

Just one little mistake: The Minetest Game stair recipe did not actually stay the exactly same. The output count changed from 6 to 8. Also, the mirrored stair recipe has been removed (as well as for tools).

Downloaded the Windows 64 version. Will be testing an assortment of my favorite mods with it and report my findings later.

The Minetest Wiki has been mostly updated for 5.0.0 now. I worked half of the day on that one! For reals!

Changed pages (excerpt):
- Controls (new controls)
- Controls/Movement modes (new mode: pitch move mode)
- Privileges (removed privilege: zoom)
- Server commands (new commands: /kill, /haspriv)
- Blocks (new blocks)
- Items (new items)
- Smelting (new fuels)
- Biomes (only v6 biomes)
- All relevant block/item pages

Still TODO:
- Ores (ore distribution was changed)
- Biomes (new non-v6 biomes in Minetest Game)
- Content DB stuff

I didn't realize the output changed... I thought the mirrored changes were removed before 5.0, maybe I've just been building too often and forgot that it wasn't in 0.4.17.1.

First three on my docket:
  1. srifqi's Superflat Mapgen 1.3 viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9772
  2. VanessaE's Dreambuilder Modpack, Build #20190306-1717 viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9196
  3. TumeniNodes's ArtDeco mod viewtopic.php?f=11&t=14444
Results Thus Far: Haven't had significant issues using any of the three above with 5.0.0. Will test some more mods and post more reports later.

Grats on getting it out the door, devs and everyone involved! Nice one :D

...and I just grabbed and compiled a dev version of 5.0.0 yesterday evening too lol.

It's the fate of many "non-essential" packages, unless there is someone in that specific maintainer group who happens to care about that particular package. Most will update in the next few weeks I expect.

I know for Arch that is usually take 3-5 weeks to update Minetest because the maintainer neither is a player nor a dev. Seems like the currently updated packages are maintained by devs or active players.

Fortunately updating Minetest in arch is super easy: get the package, modify PKGBUILD to point to the latest version and add the checksums, makepkg, pacman -U ..., done. I suggest setting pkgrel=0 so the updated version from the repositories "updates" the manually created and installed package on pacman -Syu once the repository was updated.
