You cannot use the play store to install the release candidate, you need to uninstall Minetest and then install it from the APK files linked in this topic

(Only nerzhul has the ability to release to the play store, so the release candidate hasn't been added to the beta track)

Why put a license file in assets at all? Ideally, the user should never see them.
zip seems to work differently on different Android devices. I’ll try to fix it tomorrow.

What platform - Android, Windows, or Linux?

Is there any bubble with an error message?

If no, what's the last 30-ish lines of debug.txt? You can find it by opening your file manager and go to Internal Storage > Minetest

I play on Android.
Yes, a bubble appears with an error message.

These are the last lines of debug.txt

I found a way to get in, I move the License folder and put it in another folder, then removed it from minetest files and I can get in, but when I put the License Folder back The game closes and won't let me enter.

I have reproduced the LICENSE.txt issue, so have made an issue for it: https://github.com/minetest/minetest/issues/10049

The fix for now is to delete that folder in the assets

I see two problems:

first the version 8ebeed5 = short body as client playeranim
YouTube example about 5.3.0-dev-8ebeed5

added 21.06.2020 10:15 ICT:
SOLVED, I checked with the just 3 hours before download master, and update playeranim: look good

second, much more lag with 8ebeed5 (same server, config, gamer and positions, mods)
MTS compare to just reinstalled older version 5.3.0-dev-528b162d

added 21.06.2020 10:15 ICT:
new video long and short to proof difference in lag

still a big diff: real server with lag AVG 330, max 500 with 13 gamer in, stand still a while - but test server same CPU, RAM machine without ANY gamer already AVG 500, max 600

Regarding the second problem - there are a lot more players when the RC is running, according to the players graph

I'll definitely test this during the week-end.
Any chance to get the android internationalization support in 5.3.0 ?

Hm, I`ve viewed just via Google Play Store and I`ve not seen Minetest updated (5.0.0.23 is yet). Or will it be updated as soon as 5.3.0 comes out?

5.3.0 has not been released yet, so it is not on the play store

There's no chance - we're in feature freeze, which means bug fixes only. There's a PR, so support could be in 5.4.0

Why not release 5.3.1 for Android a month after 5.3.0, for example? With things specific to Android only.

as of report issues here before

Playeranim
* confirm, solved on 5.3.0-dev Client, with 5.3.0-dev server and new [mod] playeranmin all OK

lag
* confirm, still near double lag at 5.3.0-dev compare to actual here used 5.3.0-dev-528b162d

first of all, I have to apologise to Thomas/BuckarooBanzay (monitoring) as for this idea maybe I miss-used his service ...

As an Idea of compare main mts versions an behaviour in lag,
I created 3 different IN_PLACE by cmake and make.

- last stable 5.2.0
- my used 5.3.0-dev-528b162d
- new RC 5.3.0-dev

The results are now in https://monitoring.minetest.land

Step 1:
* all same config, so own empty world,
* and ONLY the [mod] monitoring is started.
--> and as now all are showing same 90.9 and 90 ms ...lag like this this is not helping.

Step 2:
* change all same config to load all mod as I have on my server
* but there is still empty world behind, and no gamer logged
--> also no difference in both lag values

so I have to find out how to to maybe same time, with world and gamer (mean real build in technic, mese, ...)

Sorry, until now no help for our devs

the 5.3.0-RC2 and 5.3.0-dev are running out of run_in_place
using the older installed /usr/local/share/minetest/builtin/game/... installation, a problem ?
Yes, you need to ensure Minetest loads a builtin that is compatible with your version.
