Glorious! I just peeked into the latest RC yesterday to find out my own most liked mods work as expected. I'll check out everything on weekend.

Great job! Thanks.

Debian is an intentionally outdated distro, so yes, you'll need to get Minetest in other ways

Why, its hard to get another source. Git have only a old pre 5.4.0! Why is it a outdated distro

Once the Debian maintainers have upgraded their package, 5.4.0 should be available in backports for Debian 10 too.

Debian backports is a part of the debian archive where maintainers upload newer packages, recompiled with the stable/lts distros. So, after the bullseye release, there will be a new repository to add to your sources.list and minetest probably will land there.

In the meantime, the development team setup a PPA that also works on Debian, you just need to add an older Ubuntu distro as the sources.list entry. Use this with caution, but since the PPA has only the minestest-5.4.0 package, it is safe and won't break your Debian install:

https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+ar ... ntu/stable

For Debian stable, I suggest you go with Bionic. It should work with the stable package versions. If it breaks, you can just remove and reinstall from stable or from source. To build from source, just follow the instructions on README, in the "compiling" section. One handy trick is to install all dependencies with

Code: Select all

apt build-dep minetest
.

Try this instead: https://github.com/ronoaldo/minetest/tr ... 0-ronoaldo

This is my custom build of the package ant may be useful for you as it is a "run in place" build, i.e., it's not system wide. This build may need you to have other libraries installed. Alternatively, you can use the AppImage builds from Gitlab: https://gitlab.com/minetest/minetest/-/pipelines/ - browse for the build:appimage-client and download the artifact at the far right of the screen. AppImage is a self-contained build with all dependencies so it should work on any Linux distro without requiring system-wide privileges.

Thought to download it but now I advancements to update it next Monday. I was seeing how the new setting of the new minetest platform works.

therefore I have subgame skyblock mods but it should work as before when these bugs are done.

I use debian too, the latest package is 5.3.0 from buster-backports.

Code: Select all

$ apt-cache policy minetest
minetest:
  Installed: 5.3.0+repack-1~bpo10+1
  Candidate: 5.3.0+repack-1~bpo10+1
  Version table:
 *** 5.3.0+repack-1~bpo10+1 100
        100 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian buster-backports/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     0.4.17.1+repack-1+b1 500
        500 http://httpredir.debian.org/debian buster/main amd64 Packages

You can easily compile minetest from git, I just compiled mine :D
Refer to the minetest building instructions at github.com/minetest/minetest

This PPA has the latest stable version for actively maintained Ubuntu releases from 16.04 up to 21.04:
https://launchpad.net/~minetestdevs/+archive/ubuntu/stable

Only minetest-server is missing at the moment - both in the PPA and the Debian backports.
