maybe we could have more choices in "User Control Panel/Edit global settings/My board style:"
A somewhat darker theme (not black) and something for smaller screens (smartphones, tablets and such) might be usefull.

Can "themes/skins" be suggested somewhere?

A darker theme would be nice. For now, I decided to stick to prosilver as that seems slightly more readable for me. Also, new postings are easier to see. It's very annoying that those icons in front of the postings are animated :-(

When it comes down to easy management and efficient reading of postings, all forums are crap compared to a decent newsreader like tin. Wish that could be used for reading here!

Nice... New forum... I agree with Sokomine's idea of a darker theme.

It's getting better, but I've come across another issue. The spoilers only work with java script enabled. With the old forum software when js was disabled they where just shown like expanded. Now they are hidden and you can not expand them unless you use js.

Ah, yes. I know that problem from another forum. So just consider spoilers not working until they work without JavaScript again.

It was also easier not to have to add quotation marks around the names when quoting someone.

The first thing I checked was the control panel to see if I could change the settings for myself :p It probably would be better to support a couple of themes and let the user pick. There are just too many varieties of screens/screen-size and aesthetic tastes to find one theme that fits all.

Greetings,

Would you consider breaking out the forum topics a little bit? I would like to see under "Mod Releases" these two sub-topics - MOBS and MAPGEN (BIOMES).

I think these are two popular add-on categories. There are several great mods, but they are hard to find because they are mixed in with everything else.

Trouble is: Those are not the only two subcategories we might require. And sometimes mods contain several elements. Some mobs just come with their own buildings, which are then mapgen...

There are many more :-) Blocks for building, tools, things for servers, travelling, machinery, mesecons, skins, ... just to name a few. You're right that it's right now pretty chaotic. Even people who know which mods exist and roughly how those mods are called and who wrote them have trouble locating mods after that server switch. I'd like to have an overview page - perhaps in the wiki? - where the topics for the mods would be listed. The MMDB does that to a degree, but too many mods are still missing.

I don't think any rigid subforums would work well. If that would be done, then you couldn't get an overview of all mods because they would be enclosed in their own low-activity spaces.

However, there is a thing that I think would: Tags.

There are some tag add-ons to phpBB. If someone could check those out and see if they are any good. that would help.

10MB for Uploads its to little...
The shrink map of my Karsthafen is 24 MB as zip-file.
50MB should be possible for big maps!

:(

Use file upload sites. The forum survived for 3 years with NO attachments.

I think, the attachments a very good thing.
When I look at the problems with the upload sites, that I have at the beginning, I think, many players will give up to present their maps with that problems. I myself was about to resign. And then, I would have build my Karsthafen map, but there would be no download here.
If there is enough place in the attachments for the maps, many users will not have this problems. And the download himself is easier for the other users. Many people have problems with downloads from the upload sites und in the maps section of the forum its a frequent topic...

I absolutely agree with you. The forum attachments are very helpful.

While forum attachments may be a good thing, I feel they should be restricted to smaller uploads. Having a 50 MB cap may be convenient for the client, but the server hosting it doesn't like it. If too many files get uploaded, the forum grows in size on disk, leading to higher costs to maintain hosting.... But I don't know if that is the case here. I'm just speaking in general terms. But still, GitHub, mediacrush, even DropBox (in a pinch) all work very well for your large-file-needs.

I too advocate multiple themes... or maybe even user-defined themes(!)

Has IPBoard ever been considered for forum software?

Moreover, proprietary forum software should be avoided at all costs. They're usually overcomplicated anyway.

I think it takes a while to count the posts, I've seen similar things on other phpbb forums where the count corrects itself after a few minutes.
