I've tried to add that in different way, but my PR was closed.

Also, you can still use:
Code: Select all
language = en

in your minetest.conf.

No... We're talking about the language of the interface, not the language of coding, but Lua isn't bad.

Back to topic: TLDR: I use English.
----
Recently (not so recent), I've added Malay translation. I did see a few Malaysian players on a few servers and on forums so I think it's better to start translating it to Malay. In real life, I've seen many Malaysian especially Malays who actually use their OS and all programs in Malay, most notably in younger generations so I really feel I need to start translating it when I did not see existing translation of Malay.

As for myself, I'm using English interface until the Malay translation is finished (I'm the one who is translating them to Malay anyway -- at least that's the case now). Partly because I'm more familiar with English as I was schooled in the period when a programme called "Teaching and Learning Mathematics and Sciences in English" was implemented in all schools, thus I learnt those subjects in English even though I'm in Chinese primary school. The programme was cancelled afterwards and all students in Malaysia are now learning Math and Science in native languages dependent on the school. For example, my little brother who is also schooling in the same Chinese-stream school is learning all maths and science terms in Chinese. Whereas my cousin is schooling in normal Malay-stream school is learning all maths and science terms in Malay, no more English terms.

As I learnt science in English, I do find it interesting when I re-read them in Malay. Sometimes it's quite hilarious when I see in Malay science terms that some of the words from periodical table corresponds to the symbol while the English counterparts are not, and sometimes the reverse is true. For example, Potassium (K) in Malay is Kalium and Sodium (Na) in Malay is Natrium. But, Carbon (C) in Malay is Karbon.

+ What is Malay?

I guess I can shorten that if you use Linux.

The translations do not work if you do not compile it with a special parameter set to a special value or symlink the wrongly placed translation files directory to the location where translations should be located nowadays.

Either do ln -s /usr/share/locale /usr/share/minetest or compile with CUSTOM_LOCALEDIR set to the correct value.

Seriously, this should be considered it's own language. We have murdered English so much that 'American' is pretty much a language now.

Usually I do use just an English translation, but sometimes I switch to MadCatz translation cause it's fun :D
Also I wonder why cyrillic translations use much different fonts? They are quite meager.
Nothing is essential. Everything is relatively.
I can't make sense of so much things because of those complications...

I believe that the appearance of non-ASCII characters (eg. cyrillic, arabic, chinese, etc.) in the font depends on your operating system (OS)'s font substitution method whenever the said character doesn't exist in the font itself, so it looked different in different device running different OS.

The original font only supports ASCII and a few non-ASCII characters (latin expansion pack, I think?), and the fallback font doesn't even load on certain device or OS (for unknown reason) making it fallback to system's substitution font instead. However, there's certain OS that's not that clever or has had substitution process goes wrong, and substitutes those non-ASCII characters to blank spaces.

That's why you heard complaint on "Certain words not appear" and "Asian chats not supported" despite I chat in Japanese and Chinese just fine (last chat is yesterday as I help a Japanese newbie who don't even know how to write english words and don't know how to read certain kanji that I write... I suspect that she's very young since Japanese mostly learn English from 5th grade)... those who are complaining words not appearing are the ones having device running OS that has had the font substituted the characters not-supported with a blank space...

Works only ł and ó.

I don't know, my menu is in Spanish but the game itself is in English, but I would like to play in Esperanto, though.
