Here are the specs on my new dedicated server that I'm leasing at XLHost

Xeon E3-1230 processor
3.20 GHz on 4 cores
32 GB DDR4 RAM
1 TB 7200rpm SATA hard drive
100 Mbps port

Even at peak hours (with 30+ players online), Minetest barely consumes 5% of the total memory, and CPU usage rarely exceeds 10%.

Motherboard: Asus P8Q67-M DO/TPM

Sad thing about my motherboard is that it has no USB 3.0 and only supports up to DDR3 RAM. Will have to upgrade in near future.

I'm not stealing. My friend has legit MC account, they download it and install so many mods, then they give copies to me and other friends nearby, do some setup on configurations so we can play via LAN. They say it's ok though as we are not playing online.
Spoiler
I'm not sure about the legality of installing those mods, and the legality of me using copies of it because it's under their legit account. My friend is rich, $27 converted to local currency is like RM120, I could buy the usual foods for 20 days with that RM120 as my usual foods I eat is RM6 per day, no breakfast, RM3 for lunch and RM3 for dinner.

In the other hand, if I buy the account, it means I can't eat for 20 days. But luckily I didn't buy it before my laptop having problems, it would be a waste now that I can't play on laptop. MCPE for Android is cheaper at RM35 (around $7?), but since I could just play Minetest on phone, I don't need MCPE.

So among these games, Minetest is the only game I could play online. I can't play online in Minecraft. xD

Back to topic, I'm playing on phone and I think I've posted the phone's specs, but let me post the neofetch from Termux this time:

I feel like that's violating the copyright. Yep, it is bad.
Spoiler
ONE MAJOR RULE

The one major rule is that you must not distribute anything we've made unless we specifically agree to it. By "distribute anything we've made" what we mean is:

give copies of our Game to anyone else;
make commercial use of anything we've made;
try to make money from anything we've made; or
let other people get access to anything we've made in a way that is unfair or unreasonable;

unless we specifically agree to it. And so that we are crystal clear, "the Game" or "what we have made" includes, but is not limited to, the client or the server software for our Game and includes Minecraft Pocket Edition on all platforms. It also includes updates, patches, downloadable content, add-ons, or modified versions of a Game, part of those things, or anything else we've made.

Otherwise we are quite relaxed about what you do - in fact we really encourage you to do cool stuff - but just don't do those things that we say you can't.

--https://account.mojang.com/documents/minecraft_eula
So unless you want Minecraft's goons coming after you, you can't play Minecraft. That's what I hate about copyright programs. I use open-source whenever possible so I don't have to worry with that junk.

OK, by that rules, his friend is in trouble, not him so to speak, and while it is of course officially not OK to play with giving the pay(ment), they let people play cracked versions, in the hopes that they'll buy the game later, so they can play on popular servers, or even be able to get skins. 0_0

P.S. Mojang is OK with you modding the game, in fact they encourage it, as mods & modding are a pretty big part of MC, and the community.

So this might not be the 'right' thread to ask this, I do have a question about old and weird pc's.

I am bring the Minetest game to an after school club and have a lab of old white (intel core duo) imacs (flatscreen models). Most have a gig of ram and all run at 2ghz. I am upgrading to 2 gigs this week, but the imacs are running win 7 through Boot Camp (Apple won't allow the units to upgrade past 10.5.8) which is ok - but the graphics are screwy. No opengl so no shaders. Anyone have a suggestion on settings that work best?

I used to play the old mac version of minetest on these, but that was 2-3 years ago. Things are pretty choppy as of yesterday afternoon. LOL.

The club starts on May 24th, so I am desperate. :)

What are the exact models, I could take a look for video drivers if you can get that info.
Also, have you considered installing Linux, say an Ubuntu variant, or something like that?
If you say that

Code: Select all

function.name_of_thing_to_do
is impossible, then you didn't try hard enough. :P

Mods I work on: MicroExpansion
