Hi,

Tonight, someone on my server:

• Stated that he was receiving popup ads and videos during play
• Mentioned that he was using a tablet and received the game via Google Play
• Stated that he was going to buy a laptop so he could "purchase the full game"

But, most importantly,

HE HAD NEVER HEARD OF MINETEST!

He thought he was playing Minecraft!

I took a quick glance at Google Play and there is a lot of stuff there relating to Minecraft. Perhaps one of them is an illegally rebranded Minetest.

Has anyone run into this scam?

It doesnt suprise me, I've flagged plenty or illegal MT rebrands on GP.

Actually there are MANY clones of Minetest in Google Play, so is better you download the original version from minetest.net, many people post Minetest illegal versions in the Google Play Store...

Know what clone was, is very hard, but probably is "MultiCraft", but we don't know yet if was that "game"...

Probably because Minetest is free and open, many people illegally earn money from that!

I'm honestly not surprised. If anyone else says something similar, just direct them to http://minetest.net or the app Rubenwardy posted. There are a lot of hastily built clones that have been pushed to the play store only for ad revenue.

I've watched a video about top 10 Minecraft-like games and some of them are based on Minetest (from viewing the interface and texture).

yeah i saw that video to and posted 2 comments about what the origonals of 3 of the games were (2 were minetest forks both of which were probably illegal and i know worldcraft 2 is. and the other 1 was a port of michael fogleman's craft game)

but it would be really nice to see some of these users that make these forks link to the minetest source code and state the open source license in the description.

But when i remember he says is from "Google Play" i don't know...
i don't know, anyways that's ILLEGAL and i don't know from where that app come...
Or in an alternative case:
-The "Google Play" isn't the official one, it's a FAKE "Google Play"...

I don't think someone can be so innocent to don't realize it's a fake "MineCraft", anyways (without want to offend someone) he should be a casual user, or a little kid (maybe) and probably he don't know so much about the Internet and the risks of downloading some "Minecrafts"...
If he wants to play Minecraft (ok, better play Minetest) he should buy it at the real Google Play!
Or he wants to test a beta, that's other way to play it, but that betas, normally have many bugs and problems!

i hate it that the only way to use minetest on ios is to settle for buildcraft/multicraft/freeworld type games, i gave up playing them as they were unplayably laggy
