Why is the ground marked with lines? What sort of game needs gridlines... Perhaps something turn based?Chibi ghost wrote:Hide and seek?Jordach wrote:What could I be possibly up to this time?

What the heck is this?
At first I joked about finding traces of an unknown creature, but the above really stunned me. Found in Eden. Any ideas? (other than God, which is much too obvious;) )

This gives new life to the valleys mg. However judging by just one screenshot isn't very reliable, what I can see here is noticeable higher level of complexity making for as I suspect stunningly beautiful worlds :)Gael de Sailly wrote:The new canyon shape of Valleys Mapgen (Lua version), obtained by using 3D noises instead of 2D for the valleys:
What I missed so far in valleys was minor terrain features (e.g. boulders, screes) and your example nicely breaks this somewhat artificial smoothness of terrain surfaces. Good work.
There're many very deep ravines and mountain valleys in Eden, but of course canyons are wholly different feature and I can't wait to take a closer look at them from a wanderer's perspective.
This aerial view of not-so-much-sloped lakes forming a cascade does not fully reveal the niceness of this neighbourhood when seen from the ground level.

A small Ethereal-generated bamboo grove enclosed by Aotearoa forests, fed by rivers generated by the valleys mapgen, with distant mountains populated by pine forests in a biome mix I'm provisionally calling Aotereal :)
Aotearoa: viewtopic.php?f=9&t=20770
Ethereal: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=14638
biome distribution, still needs tweaking. Since moving to valleys mapgen from carpathian I lost the snowy mountains I had. But overall I love the variety I'm getting and the landmass/biome/river distribution.

Wonderful. Valleys mg is probably the best map generator especially given its potential that can be revealed by tweaking. If you like landscapes like this you should definitely try Eden (but keep in mind that finding the most beautiful spots within this world requires doing some research).acidzebra wrote:A small Ethereal-generated bamboo grove enclosed by Aotearoa forests, fed by rivers generated by the valleys mapgen, with distant mountains populated by pine forests in a biome mix I'm provisionally calling Aotereal :)

Cave of Wonder, Eden
These tiny waterfalls are generated by the mg. One of the distinct features of real Eden is that it never becomes boring (except for the angels which became petrified en masse).
In the darker parts of this cave all the light comes from these streams of water, which creates truly heavenly effect.

Re: Post your screenshots!
I didn't expect such caves to exist, however this is due to the ethereal mod enabled. It generates shallow, horizontally large caves just beneath the surface with many entrances. Nevertheless such accumulation and setting of underground little waterfalls is extremely rare and somewhat uncanny.Chibi ghost wrote:damn pretty
Even without ethereal some deeper regular caves in Eden provide interesting and sometimes very nice spacious chambers, corridors with columns, windows, galleries and so on. I haven't explored many of them yet, frankly I much more prefer surface and mountains, but definitely there're still many curiosities underground waiting to be discovered in this strange world.
