Hybrid Dog's swamps are the ideal inspiration for yours, paramat. You should give them a look through. Also, give Hyprid Dog's mushroom biomes an examination sometime. In fact, Hybrid Dog could aid you.

Tise rivers are very interesting, from the map looks like they might be following downhill paths?

yes, they do flow downhill (yay), and the map is working now (yay) - irrlitcht's orientation can be a pain!

the mod is the huge shupa mod - start the mod, go get a cup of coffee while it creates the server lol - 58mb of data to read in from the drive (so far)!

it may be possible to map on-the-fly - i'll let you know, just had the idea

They look more like Hippos to me. They just happen to have narrower mouths than normal. Maybe they're Mutant Ninja Hippos! :D

Derpy tree:

Saw it when Jordach and I were making a map. We were growing saplings to get rid of the lighting glitches, and this is the result of one of them. :P

"chunk border leaf decay problem" or "mapgen tree griefing"? guess you have no mapgen active so probably the first.
