And paramat said this would take too long. I cobbled these mods together in less than 2 hours.

The mapgen times are authentic. These mapgens rip. Simple biome logic creates 14 biomes, with oceans and mountains handled simply by altitude. Made to use default mod from MTG.

Next is to get the 3D mapgen and Voronoi mapgen code into distinct MTG friendly mods.

Gael de Sailly knew what he was doing when he made valleys. I was always very impressed with it. I had to drop a lot of the best features when I started converting it to C, so the lua mod is still better in most respects, but with all the work paramat put into it later, the regular mapgen isn't shabby either.
Valleys are very tweakeable and pursuing more appealing modes of terrain generation proves very satisfying though rather tricky. E.g. in one of the tweaks I found that there is a possibility of near - flat lakes at different altitudes, probably it could be perfected even more but I ufortunately had no time to spare for this idea.

A new revolution in mods is coming to Minetest. These are the 2.0 mods. I will bring them to you of course.

Be what you want and how you want. With the new mod, "closet", you can wear clothes and go to the latest fashion.

See how happy Sam and Samantha, as good boyfriends who are, they exchange outfits.

Making turrets from Portal 2...
Image
Image

I want to make very similar behaviour as in that amazing legendary game. They will have the red laser emitted. If any player enters their field of sight (under an angle in 45 degrees and lower), they will direct their laser towards the player and start to shoot out the spears. It is pretty hard to implement actually. In future, I plan to make a whole mod or even game dedicated to Portal 2.

Another screenshot from the same world! A hilly, wooded valley going down from an epic mountain range. Other rivers can be seen farther on the left. Viewing range is 890 (and I thought I would reach the limits of my computer), some peaks at the background can exceed 300 nodes high. Notice how temperature is adjusted by elevation.

Also using paramats' lvm_examle 3D terrain code. Modified to make 2D heightmap from 3D noise, while preserving the 3D overhangs, and to add lib_materials / lib_ecology biomes and decorations. Mapgen times in screenshot. I'll post the code soon.

Hand Painted tp by Drummyfish, although stylistically very consistent and of really high quality, definitely doesn't make a perfect match to my preferences especially when short-distance views are concerned. These textures, although kept in a very consistent and interesting styling, are too far from reality for my taste. However the pallette makes for very nice cheerful ambience when broader views of landscape are captured.

This is the first in a series of screenshots featuring magic of V5 map generator.

Image

I should add for the sake of honesty, that all of these screenshots are in fact a little bit 'improved' by editing to make a more pleasing effect; however the original textures are very good during a dynamic play, they appear too dark after shot since the brightness of my monitor display clearly affects captured screenshots.

There is no rain in minetest (at least by default), but falling nodes exist (e.g. sand). A grass roof can protect against this.
