Looking at the fact that you have 2 posts, you must be new around here.

Many of the developers are very wary of adding mobs to the game. A lot of the mods aren't as polished as the rest of the game. They also have to spawn in a reasonable way. Then after even that is done, there will be opposition to the default game. Minetest is based a lot on subgames, not just mods, that provide a more full experience. There might be the inclusion of mobs at some point, but I don't think it is that high up on the developers list of todos.

I could be completely wrong, as I don't actually talk with the devs a whole lot, but from what I saw the last time this discussion happened, some of the devs aren't too keen on adding mobs, which means they probably won't be added.

Release 0.4.17 and rotate to 0.5. Only bugfixes.

Already 0.6 number??? Maybe it will be only over some releases, maybe in 0.7, maybe in 0.8 or 0.9 and etc.

I’d prefer if there was a lot of bug fixes im the next version, and I ‘m probably not alone. MT does run pretty stable, still it crashes here an there, which can be annoying.

And there are pointless errors which RGB profiles.

Not in the foreseeable future. There was a GitHub issue stating “End of november sounds reasonable” and giving November 26, 2017 or December 20, 2017 as possible dates.

After the usual annoyingly long and unnecessary discussion that happens on all issues that are not completely ignored by the devs the issue was abandoned on December 15, 2017.

Is 0.5.0 being developed now? It should be released still some months ago as Minetest updates are usually released two times in a year.

kaadmy: Yes, but 0.4.17 is the backport from 0.4.16 you can compile it. 0.4.17 have released in the development of 0.5.0. 0.4.17 only fix bugs.

0.5.0 Isn't public but its more stable now. Now the unstable things are fixed now but one thing is not fixed maybe. 0.5.0 releases in February I think.

guys... seriously... ppa builds of 4.16 stopped, there is no bugfix/service pack version 4.16.1, instead there is backport 0.4 what is actually 4.17 bugfix version and after all this there is no new ppa for the backport 0.4 a.k.a. 0.4.17. (facepalm) could you PLEASE consider hooking up the 0.4 backport whatever bugfix repo to the Jenkins/Travis (whtvr you are using) and make 0.4.17 daily ppa builds alive again? i dont see how this is not a trivial task but im a noob in these thing so my apologies up front if i miss something or my comment doesnt make sense at all

Agreed, test versions of 0.4.17 should be available for windows, linux and maybe even android for testing without the player having to build their own each time something is changed.

I propose releasing 0.4.x bugfix releases as usual (every 0.5 year) and move all the developer force to 0.5.

add D to all options -USE_SOMETHING -> -DUSE_SOMETHING

Hope this helps any Ubuntu 18.04 users out there wanting to compile Minetest 0.4.17 as a run-in-place game.

git clone -b backport-0.4 https://github.com/minetest/minetest.git --depth 100

cd minetest

cmake . -DRUN_IN_PLACE=1 -DENABLE_GETTEXT=1 -DENABLE_FREETYPE=1 -DENABLE_LEVELDB=1

make -j3

./bin/minetest # to run game


... once complete and hopefully without errors, download the 0.4.17 backport version of minetest_game and unpack into the games folder.
