Actually for Minetest being from a team of unpaid collaborators, i can say it does go in a very good level.

Just wanna toss my two cents in. From my understanding MT is not actually a game but a game engine. I don't think general population (ex: the entire MC community) should even know that MT is a thing beyond a minimal degree. Being on these forums is like being on Unities forums (if it was open source of course), not really a place for players. I think if you want to advertise you need to get behind a sub-game and advertise that, or maybe a server that uses a popular or custom sub game.

Very first release of minetest I can see at the releases page of the minetest github is Jul 31, 2011(I don't know if it was still alpha or something), minecrap development started in 2009, "full game" release was in Nov 2011
