The easiest way is just to delete the bones mod directory in the default game. At that point, people will simply respawn with their possessions untouched. (I did that, since I hate corpse runs.)

Bones has a mode setting you can use to disable bones by adding the following to your minetest.conf file:

-- drop inventory items instead of placing bones
bones_mode = drop

..or..

-- keep items when you die
bones_mode = keep

I think I'll do I'll do it duane's way and then just make an alias to turn bones into unlocked chests in case some players have bones with stuff in them lying around.
