Weak fire? (poll)
While testing some pyromaniac things, I realised that fire does not spread like it used to. It spread so slowly that it sometimes turns off without spreading... Compared to the 4.11 fire which could burn a forest in 20 minutes, it's a weakling... But it's too weak, you can just stop it py punching it.

Re: Weak fire? (poll)
Yeah i tuned fire and rewrote the code. If you set fire to the base of a tree trunk it can go out before spreading, but set fire to a leaf node and it will initially spread faster, it is still quite fast once it gets going.
Because spread speed is exponential, if it starts at a moderate speed it will soon become too fast, so it has to start slow.
The classic speed was actually insanely fast and often killed servers due to intensive fire code, now the speed and code has been improved a lot, and sound is no longer buggy.
If you want a pyromaniac's server you can customise the mod or make a new mod, most people don't want that type of fire behaviour.
An isolated tree still burns completely in a reasonable and fairly realistic time.

I agree. Having some type of ignite effect would make it a lot better

Re: Weak fire? (poll)
Well, fire can burn exponentially only in a negatively curved space. In eucleidan space, it will always run out of space and stop at polynomial speed. Burning fuel in a 3D space is always at least O(n^(1/3)).
If you lack the reality, go on a trip or find a job.

Re: Weak fire? (poll)
I am playing around with making a lava mod, and occasionally lava finds itself in a forest. I have seen fire burn down an entire forest. Before I was working on this lava mod idea, I had blown up tnt in a forest and the fire resulting from 1 blast was enough to do much clearing, a bit slowly but effectively. And man, it was difficult to stop.

Re: Weak fire? (poll)
well I did try to burn a whole forest: the fire almost didn't move, cuz the trees were spaced.

What kind of forest was it?azekill_DIABLO wrote:well I did try to burn a whole forest: the fire almost didn't move, cuz the trees were spaced.

Re: Weak fire? (poll)
If you just walk through a fire node fast enough you won’t take any damage at all. This makes adventure maps difficult. Also it should ignite the player for 2-5 seconds.
