haven't tried it yet, but slippery ice sounds pretty cool :)

The new player API broke a lot of my favorite mods;
but after a boat load of editing everything is panning out.

Wasn't there a thread similar to this already?
Every time a mod API is left undocumented, a koala dies.

One important and kinda controversial change is that the day time of new worlds has been set to 5:15 a.m. which means the day doesn't start with full brightness.

This gives a nice sunrise (lasts for about 22 seconds at default speed) but some people argued that it might cause problems with mobs and stuff.
What do you think of this?

I don't know, it has probably been lost for a long time and maybe it was specific to a single version only and that version has already been released.

Wouldn't it be better to fix this upstream and poke the original mod authors?

In the end I added a setting for 'world_start_time' so now you can choose.

Some of you might already know it, but Minetest 0.5.0-dev has a new core mapgen called “carpathian”.
It is very strong in mountain generation:

Definitely something worth trying out.

Literally the same topic already exists, except the word "Minetest" is on opposite ends of the title :P

And it is up until 0.4.15-dev.
But a refreshed topic is nice.

Paramat recently added stratum ores:

These are long bands of ores roughly at the same height.
