mysterious minetestserver.core file????

by Aerozoic » Post

What is this file??? This file just magically appeared in the minetest/games/... directory. I searched the dev wiki and github and found nothing. Is it documented?

Never seen such a file yet.
What are the contents? Binary/text? Perhaps logs from in-game?

The file is nearly 100MB. The "file" command returns this:

Code: Select all

minetestserver.core: ELF 64-bit LSB core file x86-64, version 1 (FreeBSD), FreeBSD-style, from 'tserver --config /home/UGX/.minetest/games/UGXrealms/minetest.conf --game'
And here is a snippet of when i "cat" the file.

It's a core dump, dropped by the kernel when your program crashed. Linux wizards can examine these things for clues as to the nature of the crash, it's like a backtrace with more detail.
It's safe to delete it.

Thanks Mantar! So this file was created by the OS and not MT, that explains everything.
